Do any of you use the withdrawal method?

Or do you consider those who use only this method to be significant risk?

That's how I ended up with twins …...

Drogosnextwife · 07/05/2019 13:22

I wouldn't do it but I would love to come off contraception, hate condoms they feel horrible. I find it surprising that they still haven't though of any kind of contraception for me other than condoms Hmm

RagingWhoreBag · 07/05/2019 13:23

I’ve used it with DP for 7 years but I’m in my 40s and presume not very fertile. We each have our own DCs and don’t want any more but he’s a condom refuser and I can’t take hormonal contraceptives so unless he gets the snip, he has to withdraw. I appreciate that it’s not 100% but combined with the rhythm method (ie no PIV for 7-10 days when I’m most fertile) it’s worked so far

Drogosnextwife · 07/05/2019 13:23

Men, not me!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 07/05/2019 13:24

I got pregnant using it.

rodentattack · 07/05/2019 13:25

I just had surgery on my cervix. Had to have my Mirena removed and can't have sex for 4 weeks, after which there will be a wait to get another Mirena. I'm afraid there will be a bit of withdrawing going on while we wait 😜 Can't imagine I'm particularly fertile these days though.

Capybaras · 07/05/2019 13:28

We used natural cycles as I didn't get on with hormonal contraception and after a while we weren't loving condoms. But we were happy with the possibility of falling pregnant. Used natural cycles/withdrawal successfully for a year and then fell pregnant first time we started trying. If falling pregnant would be a bad thing for you then withdrawal probably isn't the was to go!

Connieston · 07/05/2019 13:29

I've used it for a while when me and XH were newly married and "trying but not trying". At least 18 months or so with no pregnancy and when we did get Pg it was when we decided to get serious and would have been two or three months after not withdrawing. So in my experience it worked but a short window comparatively and it wouldn't have mattered if I did get Pg. I wouldn't risk it if I did not want to be pregnant!

roundligament · 07/05/2019 13:29

Yes and very well for 6 years no mistakes one planned pregnancy
Took the pill for two months and got pregnant ..

Megan2018 · 07/05/2019 13:31

We used it highly successfully for 6 years. We stopped to TTC and got pregnant pretty quickly given we are over 40. We are very happy with it (but an earlier pregnancy would not have been a disaster).
My DH has very good control though due to a medical circumcision which resulted in loss of sensitivity. It might not work so well for someone else.

SoundofSilence · 07/05/2019 13:32

My withdrawal method baby is now 6.

Sculpin · 07/05/2019 13:34

I used this method for years without falling pregnant. I think it depends a lot on the man's self control!

Springisallaround · 07/05/2019 13:36

Yes, for about 18 months, then planned baby, back to the method for 9 months, then another planned baby. Was fine for us as we weren't totally against having an earlier baby. Was very disciplined though, no mistakes, I think often people make mistakes and then don't do anything about it in which case pregnancy is quite likely.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 07/05/2019 13:36

I've used it for years and not got pregnant either, but we wouldn't mind if we did conceive.

BuildBuildings · 07/05/2019 13:41

Yep been doing it for 14 year from aged 20 ksame partner) never been pregnant. Accidentally or planned!

NotSoThinLizzy · 07/05/2019 13:50

Currently pregnant with a withdrawal baby 😊 but its because my cycles messed up and did a 20 day cycle instead of 30. If a baby wouldn't be the end of the world then it's worth it. We was using it fine for nearly 2 years before this.

MattieB19 · 07/05/2019 13:54

Thanks for all your responses! To those who got pregnant, do you think this was because your DP didn't pull out in time? Understandably I know you may not know exactly.

NotSoThinLizzy · 07/05/2019 15:48

In our case OH pulled out in time but we are quite fertile. I was 25 at the time so age on our side too

Hezz · 07/05/2019 15:50

Yes for about ten years, no problems at all.

Yogagirl123 · 07/05/2019 15:53

Used this method for years, only got pregnant when we planned too.

Used it successfully for about three years without getting pregnant, but it wouldn’t have been the end of the world if I had.

I wouldn’t use it as a method if I seriously didn’t want to get pregnant

Shahlalala · 07/05/2019 16:14

We used it for 8 years with no pregnancies.
Tried for 2 weeks and was pregnant, then used it successfully for another few years and tried again and was pregnant within the month again.
I wouldn’t have used this method if I wasn’t in a committed relationship and really didn’t want to be pregnant, just in case. It works for us though.

pumpastrotter · 07/05/2019 16:16

Yep we did for a couple of months, my DD is proof of it's effectiveness and yes DH was pulling out in time for the finale.

Happyspud · 07/05/2019 16:18

Yep. It failed.
