Getting a bit close to the end of the previous one!

Yep it worked, thanks @Glittertwins

itsgettingweird · 11/04/2023 18:34

Yay worked.

Genius Halo

So today ds new 400 time went on rankings.

Using para swimming points he's now technically better at the 400 free than the 50.

He's made me promise NOT to mention that in front of his coach Grin

Glittertwins · 11/04/2023 18:43

I think it might just get found out!

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 11/04/2023 18:50

His current saving grace may be that a) he's ranked equally for both in the world and b) there's another S9 just a little quicker than him at 400!!!!

Plus as they are wanting his 100 free that leads to the 50m being the tandem distance.

I think it's just natural that as they are adjusting his strike for efficiency it's paying off for 400 as he tends to do most of it pull - even when racing Grin

Marking.

In terms of the jammers I’d have thought if they were too tight then they’d spill over the top and they’d be at risk of coming down.

Tbh my dd is proper moans so I measure her and then go up a size for a peaceful life. I haven’t bought one for dd2 as yet.

I dont think he is in danger of spilling over the top I think if he could get them passed his thighs they would be fine on his waist its just getting them there.

Hellocatshome · 11/04/2023 20:48

Well we have admitted defeat and they are going back. Not a hope in hell of those going over his thighs. Problem was they were super deal in the sale and only in that size so now the next pair I have ordered is £70 more expensive. Good job he's got some birthday money coming through as he's said he will cover the difference bless him.

WidowTwonky · 11/04/2023 23:34

DS measures 31/32 in waist and wears size 24 in the valor.
He has bulky thighs

But he has tried on and returned lots of different makes/models/sizes before he found his preference

Glittertwins · 12/04/2023 06:01

I remember DD couldn't get into the 22s when he was a lot smaller either, his thighs were also relatively big too. Chap at the shop took one look at him and said he wasn't surprised they didn't fit. There's skin tight and skin tight 😆

DS, not DD!!!!

Yes I know they take a long time to put on but we could have been there until Christmas and they still wouldn't have been anywhere close to on.

On a different topic, do you have to be Scottish or swim at a Scottish club ti compete at SNAGS or could you compete if you are English and have no connections to Scotland at all?

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2023 08:59

Not sure.

We have swimmers there but they have Scottish grandparents and can register under Scotland.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2023 11:48

Just watching our swimmer now.

They said you don't need to be a Scot to enter but only swim if there is a space and you have a qualifying time for non nationals

Glittertwins · 12/04/2023 12:11

Can you only swim under one nationality? IE can't enter Scots and English?

Ah ok so its a case of get the QT apply and then if the event isn't full of Scottish swimmers you get a lane?

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2023 12:39

Think so.

Porseb · 12/04/2023 17:16

You have to put it on your Swim England registration and I believe you can change it yourself.

People who live in England with Scottish heritage can declare Scotland as country of representation or Wales.

Useful for getting on pathways and later Commonwealth selections

Glittertwins · 12/04/2023 17:43

Doesn't really matter to us, I think it would be a rather tenuous link to another home nation

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 12/04/2023 18:06

Yeah doesn't apply here either.

We do have a few Scottish and Welsh registered athletes in our club. As mentioned above it's helpful for commonwealth selection and also home nation programmes.

Madcats · 12/04/2023 18:38

Thankyou for the new thread.

Our Regionals start in just over a fortnight's time. Apparently we need some new goggles (sighs).

I am hoping that the south west will have run out of rain/hail/wind by then!

Eccle80 · 12/04/2023 19:09

We’re going to Welsh nationals tomorrow - they’re at an English club but qualify through having a Welsh born parent (it can go back to grandparent too) - you have to pick one county of international representation, though if you are at an English club have to opt in for being ranked for the other home nation summer meets. Welsh nationals only have swimmers from Welsh clubs or with Welsh country of representation, but for the summer meet English or Scottish swimmers can enter after Welsh ranked swimmers to fill places.

Hellocatshome · 12/04/2023 19:53

Ah I dont think we would qualify for any other nation. DSs bio grandad is Welsh but DH was adopted by English parents so I dont think that would count anymore.

Eccle80 · 12/04/2023 22:54

Poor Swim Wales are having a nightmare with the national championships. They were meant to be in Swansea, a week ago they had to move them to Cardiff because of an issue with the pool boom in Swansea meaning it couldn’t be used as 50m, now at 8pm tonight they were told the boom in Cardiff has broken and is stuck up, so they have had to convert the competition to short course.

They are getting so much grief on Facebook (and I get why people who are aiming at British are upset), but it seems like enormous bad luck rather than anything Swim Wales could have avoided

Glittertwins · 12/04/2023 23:50

I saw that they'd had to change and that it caused a few issues for people who'd booked flights/accommodation. I wouldn't be happy about it being changed to SC though, especially because we'd be wanting the LC times.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 13/04/2023 04:19

Someone mentioned to me Tuesday that High Wycombe have the same issue re the boom which will affect our senior age swimmers for regionals.

Absolutely a pain in the arse but there's a known issue with these moveable booms.

Our pools hasn't worked properly for over 3 years. We end up with a pool that has one end 1.35 and a drop to the deep end.
