@HereComeTheHolidays Don't fret, I'm sure he'll love it. If he loves to sing he'll be in the right place! They don't need to have loads of experience. Everybody's a newbie the first time!

Thanks so much - that is great to hear. It looks really well organised.

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/07/2021 20:00

@HereComeTheHolidays all of our DC started as the ones with very little experience. If it is a BYMT summer camp they are perfectly pitched for those with little previous experience. Enthusiasm and enjoyment is the best initial starting point.
One thing my DD loved was it you weren't some kind of geek to love musicals, everybody else loved them just as much.

minimits · 24/07/2021 16:54

@HereComeTheHolidays Agree with everyone above! Your son will be absolutely fine! The best thing about it all is being with others who love to sing and I think that’s especially true for boys who might not get that opportunity at school much. There will be a huge range of experience but lots of support. Sure he will have a great time!
Just dropped DS at his residential rehearsals-and now the praying for negative results for the next two weeks begins!!!

janinlondon · 24/07/2021 19:39

dd is doing daily lft and weekly pcr ...it’s slightly obsessive...?! One week to go till Henrietta. Fingers crossed

Biscuitsneeded · 24/07/2021 22:14

I made poor DS lie very low all this week. He was quite bored (but not bored enough to start looking at his introductory work for 6th form in September) but it did mean he could do lots of practising of the Hunchback songs. Have heard that tonight at least the entire Hunchback company has tested negative on their LFTs, so that's something... And NYMT are being very sensible about it all. Have to say it felt quite momentous pulling into the car park. I know that's just one hurdle overcome, even getting there, but the happiness mixed with nerves was palpable. @janinlondon, not long now for your DD. We really want to come and watch. Keep crossing every available digit please everyone, for all our kids and their various shows!

Lonecatwithkitten · 24/07/2021 23:19

Peter Pan is a week in and all good so far. It is a closed bubbles so no external contact till after the last show, but DD tells me they can have Amazon deliveries to the school where they are rehearsing. She is loving it back in her happy place.

janinlondon · 25/07/2021 07:28

I am worrying about the two day break in the Nymt schedule - thinking it is an unnecessary risk that they could, this year, have tried to avoid.....

doesanybodyhaveamap · 25/07/2021 08:26

We are taking a trip into london today as DD has a very exciting gig for the International Musical Director Symposium at RAM. But we'll be driving in, parking 3 mins away, she'll do her bit and then we'll leave. Picking up a kitten on the way home which should help with the boredom of incarceration for the next week until we deposit her at Sevenoaks. So flippin' excited!!!!

@Lonecatwithkitten my ds told me about the deliveries and asked me if I could send him some Manuka honey!! Diva eh?

He’s loving every minute - I’m sure they are ready for a day off today!

DD was after a steamer as she is losing her voice, it will come back. It was always going to happen after not really using it for so long and her part has a massive belting solo - she has been given the diva role!
Enormously proud if her attitude after so long out and as she has big auditions this winter this is an amazing opportunity for her.

Me too! I can't work out if driving up on Sunday and letting DC stay overnight in a hotel (on their own - not ideal) is better or worse than putting them on an early train on Monday to get to Manchester in time. Train probably is higher risk than hotel but staying overnight on their own doesn't seem ideal either. Feel it would be safer for the whole company to travel together by coach this year!

This interesting as BYMT has taken the very opposite approach the cast have no contact with the outside world till after the last performance. Because of this as time goes on my anxiety about a possible Covid case decreases.
minimits · 25/07/2021 17:27

@bublinka it’s a mare isn’t it-I really don’t want to drive up to Manchester but don’t want to risk DS on the train-will stay in hotel Sunday night but even that is a risk I guess. Stressful few weeks ahead!

Biscuitsneeded · 25/07/2021 17:57

@janinlondon I would feel safer with them staying there and then getting a big bus too, but I guess they just can't accommodate all the casts safely at Sevenoaks that weekend, or have the pastoral staff available. This was all planned before we knew about the Johnson variant I guess! I am going to get the rest of our family to do LFTs in the day before DS is due home so we can stop him coming home and send him to another cast member for the weekend if there seems to be any risk.
@bublinka I have also decided against the train and am driving DS up on the Sunday. We live too far away for me to drive back the same day or risk traffic on Monday. I have booked us both into the Premier Inn nearest to the Cathedral as it was something like £31 for a twin room. If your DC is in the same hotel there will be other Hunchbackers around that evening so they won't be totally alone if there's a problem. Obviously we won't all be getting together for a big party in the bar, but perhaps dinner sitting outdoors somewhere (if it isn't famous Manchester weather!) might be possible.

Newgirls · 30/07/2021 18:33

Glad to see this chat is still going!

Dd got offered a place on our girls, our game - I guess someone has had to change their plans. We can do it - any info to help us decide would be good! Not done a bymt course before. Two weeks residential sounds intense but she is 15 and pretty good meeting new people.

Mcmumager · 30/07/2021 18:47

Ooh @Newgirls. Congratulations! I really like the sound of that one- my daughter couldn’t do the one she was offered and I was hoping she might get a call for that one but no luck - maybe too young at 13.

My 15 year old son is now nearly 2 weeks into his BYMT residential for Peter Pan. He is having the time of his life- loving every minute and made lots of new friends. Totally recommend it.

DalekFan · 30/07/2021 18:58

Hi @Newgirls, great news. 😊 I concur with @Mcmumager. My DD (15) is also doing Peter Pan and is having the best time. They are nearly through the 2nd of 3 weeks away. She has made lots of new friends, a couple of which are now considered besties! It is hard work but they all love it.

One of my DDs good school friends is doing Our Girls, Our Game, so there will be at least one other 15 year old there. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Newgirls · 30/07/2021 19:55

Oh that’s great to hear thank you both. Glad Peter Pan is going well. I will check where the performances are and try and come along.

As it’s about a female football team I am
Sure they will have gone with taller/older girls.

janinlondon · 31/07/2021 08:54

Hope the Henrietta troupe are all en route. DD had a minor panic yesterday when she realised that they are not even allowed to walk into Waitrose for supplies, but has stuffed more into the (already overstuffed) bag and is on track to be delivered to the train in half an hour. All daily LFTs and an additional PCR for good luck have been negative and she has what appears to be most of the UK supply of tests with her. Hope all are negative in the covid sense, but positive in the Henrietta sense. Good luck!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 31/07/2021 10:43

One violist deposited at Sevenoaks. In the flurry of activity (and having forgotten to fill out the personal details form) I didn't even say a proper goodbye! Was such a buzz to see them all arriving though, and a relief to get her there. Now let's hope that fortune smiles on them all!!

janinlondon · 31/07/2021 10:59

@doesanybodyhaveamap Also a rushed farewell here as I slowed the car to a roll and threw her from the moving vehicle at the station amid roadworks and closures.....Though I know from experience I will hear nothing further for the next two weeks anyway hahahaha. This is her last ever show....She starts at RAM in Sept...so I'm also hoping it goes without a hitch.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 31/07/2021 11:04

Awwww @janinlondon it's going to be emotional!! Hope she has an amazing time!! (And if she runs out of supplies tell her to search out the little violist in hunchback 😆)

Yr10mom · 31/07/2021 11:13

hi Jan - my dd is in hunchback and at RAM jd so might be nice if they meet at some point when the bubble is released tonight (also many supplies!)

Yr10mom · 31/07/2021 11:14

assuming it’s JD she starting - no idea of age 😊
