NYMT / BYMT 2021

Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

Good luck everyone!

minimits · 17/04/2021 10:45

Best of luck to everyone x

Biscuitsneeded · 17/04/2021 11:14

@allhailthebrain - welcome!

Comefromaway · 17/04/2021 11:43

Welcome to the thread.

My Ds is a massive JRB fan.

Biscuitsneeded · 17/04/2021 11:48

Us too! JRB directed 13 for NYMT 9 years ago! Maybe they'll do a 10th anniversary reprise next summer. My DS is too old, but some of yours would be perfect! And NYMT's Parade a couple of years ago was incredible - real shame JRB didn't get to see what they did with it.

Comefromaway · 17/04/2021 15:51

Yes, a girl from DD’s school was in 13.

Comefromaway · 17/04/2021 15:54

One of dh’s students played Lucille in Parade too. (They double cast I think). We couldn’t go to see it unfortunately due to distance and other commitments.

Triflefan · 17/04/2021 17:07

@biscuitsneeded
How was the accent?
I daren’t ask DS how his went!

Biscuitsneeded · 17/04/2021 17:50

@Triflefan I have no idea. I went out! DS generally happy. How did your DS find it generally? Was he this morning or early pm? Mine was 2pm. He was just relieved the dance went fine without the music glitching and lagging this time.

janinlondon · 17/04/2021 18:36

Seems to be pretty standard NYMT stuff - Some have been taken to break out rooms in both this morning and this afternoon's sessions to sing.

Triflefan · 17/04/2021 19:45

@Biscuitsneeded he had one at 10:30 and one at 4:30. I was out for one having a long overdue haircut.
No internet issues here today either which was a completely bonus!
I think a couple of weeks before we find out. More gin required!

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/04/2021 20:03

@Newgirls

Got an email for bymt saying dd on the reserve list for a performer. I guess just wait to hear if anything changes nearer the time 🤷‍♀️
Historically everyone on the reserve list has got a show. DD was reserve list last year and even lockdown etc, by May they had offered her Peter Pan.
allhailthebrain · 17/04/2021 20:25
@allhailthebrain - welcome!
Thanks!

Mine seemed to think it went well... We'll see!

So, room for a little one in the waiting room...?

Apparently it will be late next week... Can't believe we will finally know for sure!

Jamsanmum · 17/04/2021 20:31

My Dd was in Nymt recall for Henrietta this afternoon... anyone else? She love it and felt it went well but did think it was a bit odd in parts... got all the kids to read bits and read bits again but not given any direction at all - just read a scene once (and then later was asked to read again - but again no direction)... given they’d already seen them read on self tapes, i think she just didn’t really need understand what else the creatives could see (beyond what was on their tapes)... loved it though. She wasn’t expecting have to sing but enjoyed the opportunity to do that.
They were told ‘end of next week’ for decisions...😳😬

Biscuitsneeded · 17/04/2021 20:38

Slightly mixed messages again about results. The Billy recallees were told two weeks because there is still stuff to sort out. They can't release results for one show and not another, because some kids are recalled for more than one show and then the teams have to work together to work out who gets who. Let's hope the Henrietta creatives are right and the others have it wrong!! But I wouldn't bank on knowing by the end of the week... Really hope we will know within 2 weeks though.

allhailthebrain · 17/04/2021 20:40

@jamsanmum mine loved it too - said in their group that only 4 people were asked to sing and were given tips and things to try while they did so.
All read the piece and some were also asked to do a further (different) piece. Then obviously the dance. No idea if they were the same group though!

Alakazam8 · 17/04/2021 20:42

Good luck everyone- doesn’t seem too long to wait for you all this time!

allhailthebrain · 17/04/2021 20:44

@biscuitsneeded I've gone off you Grin Wink

Dammit! I thought we had a definitive date answer there!

I wonder why they need the extra time - could be a hundred things I guess!

Biscuitsneeded · 17/04/2021 22:02

@allhailthebrain sorry!

My DS seemed to think they had a stand -in MD today (although no singing for his recall show anyway) because someone was having a baby. So maybe the real MD still needs to view the tapes? DS usually makes sense but he seemed a bit vague about the details on this, so who knows?!

Belshels · 17/04/2021 22:04

@Lonecatkitten is your daughter on a wait list for a 2nd show, and already in Peter Pan. I was wondering if they would do this?

allhailthebrain · 17/04/2021 22:21

@biscuitsneeded I think that's a pretty valid excuse if that's right!

I'm intrigued as to numbers this year. This morning I saw one of the creatives had said they had watched all 120 self tapes and was looking forward to it but they used the hashtag #hunchback so I presumed that was 120 for that show. Tonight I saw Kate G (Henrietta) had also posted she had watched all 120 tapes... but she hashtagged every show! If there were only 120 recalls across the board then chances are far better...

Numbers wise - they told mine in first recall they were looking for 70 in total for Hunchback including the choir (so maybe 50 MT?) then 20-30 for each of the other two shows but they were trying to keep numbers low in case of social distancing restrictions. So somewhere around 100-110 plus workshop. Last year they had 250 in total including the workshop. Numbers are certainly lower (obviously with there being one show less) so they've all done fantastically well to get here.

janinlondon · 17/04/2021 22:25

DD also in the Henrietta recall this afternoon- And also wasn’t expecting to have to sing pieces from the show. But enjoyed doing it.

Jamsanmum · 17/04/2021 22:53

So there were 65 kids in the afternoon recall this arvo.... and they were split across the three shows. Assuming the same this morning and then also tomorrow. So roughly 40 seen sat and 40 seen sunday for each show? I can’t imagine they can pull a show like henrietta off with only 20 kids... it needs an ‘adult’ and child ensemble... so 30 min...? I’m guessing of course! My Dd is overthinking everything ... was she asked to sing because she wan’t good enough in her self tape ... or because they wanted to hear more of her sing?! Hate the wait!

Did someone say earlier in the week that those not cast will automatically be considered for the workshop..?
Hope everyone recalled today is feeling good ... anyone recalled tmrw..?! Good luck!

Triflefan · 17/04/2021 23:14

@Jamsanmum I made my head hurt trying to work that out earlier.
I think it must be 120 being recalled per show.
I believe there were 3 workshops today 10:30 2:30 and 4:30. If it’s the same tomorrow then that’s likely to be 60 ish per show per day?

I did overhear one of the directors saying they could cast the shows 3-4 times over with the recallees so that would make sense.
I may have this completely wrong but I have a vague recollection of the Kiss me Kate cast being 32?

Biscuitsneeded · 17/04/2021 23:16

@Jamsanmum afraid it may be more than that. There were 3 recalls for each show today and will be 3 more tomorrow. Each had a max of 20ish kids in it. So that's why creatives were tweeting they had watched 120 videos - because 6x20 = 120. However, some of those recalled people will have two recalls, and obviously can't be in 2 shows! Setting aside the choir who were recruited separately, I think Hunchback will have about 40 performers and the other two will have high 20s. So to get to a cast of about 30 from 120 would mean a 1 in 4 chance, but the double recalls will probably reduce that to somewhere around 1 in 3. Whatever happens, they've all done really well.
