A new installment of the long running music parent threads. Everyone is welcome from complete beginners to grade 8 and beyond. Thanks as ever to the lovely waffle for starting the threads up and looking after them for years. What are your plans for the coming term? Any exams, auditions, festivals, new instruments? Please come and chat.

@QueenMabby they are flutes with a u-bend for kids with little arms 😊

minisnowballs · 05/07/2019 19:24

That's right - I think they call them a 'curved head joint'. My dd had one to start with.

FiddleOnTheRoof · 06/07/2019 01:15

Getting extremely impatient Smile will we be getting grade 5 theory results this week do you think? Would really like to know before we head off on holiday next Saturday Blush

Thistly · 06/07/2019 08:26

Fiddle; it’s getting annoying now isn’t it!
I am optimistic it will be on Friday. Did you make the entry yourself?
I didn’t so I’m guessing I won’t necessarily hear immediately.
In the mean time, have some 🍰 for breakfast!

QueenMabby · 06/07/2019 11:53

Thanks folk and mini. The children were 7 or 8 so I suppose a full sized flute might be a bit much!

Goodbyekittymum · 06/07/2019 13:24

Also nervously waiting for Theory results here.
Hopefully a pass for DD Grin

Thistly · 06/07/2019 19:28

Goodbye kitty, I love your username! Have some 🍰 while you wait, to take your mind off it. Smile

Goodbyekittymum · 06/07/2019 20:09

Thistly, haha thank you for the Cake Smile
Hopefully the wait will be with it.

Good luck to all those who are waiting for their DC results.

Thistly · 07/07/2019 10:36

Yes, I hope our pass rate is good! There are a fair number of entrants on this thread. 🎂 all round, only another week or so to go now.

Goodbyekittymum · 07/07/2019 13:34

Thistly I can see cake offered has gotten bigger Grin

DD plays the piano and her teacher only teaches them to pass, so she started theory in January this year.
She's quite good at maths so has found it manageable. No merits for any of her pass papers but we will be very happy with a pass.
She sat for Grade 5 a few weeks back and she seemed fine when she came out.
Told her she had to stay for full 2 hrs. Wink

rivierliedje · 07/07/2019 19:54

Still waiting for results. They were meant to be in by yesterday at the latest.

FiddleOnTheRoof · 07/07/2019 19:58

Hi Thistly no, entry was made by teacher so am guessing this may delay us receiving the results a bit as she might wait until our next lesson the following week to give them out... lots of Cake and Wine me thinks until then just to get by....

FiddleOnTheRoof · 07/07/2019 19:59

Which results are they poster rivierliedje?

bostik · 08/07/2019 08:53

Are G5 theory results due any minute?! Argh! I thought we had another week. Really hoping I can pass on the practice papers but daren't get rid just yet as it was far from 'a breeze'. Grin

Thistly · 08/07/2019 22:30

Bostik, I think it might be another week. There is an outside chance that they could publish them on Friday, but I think Monday is more likely going from previous experience.
But this may be because I don’t do my own entries, so our music centre might take a day or so to turn them round.

So, in the mean time, 🍷 and 🧁 🧁 🧁 to all those waiting.

rivierliedje · 09/07/2019 08:14

Do all the theory results get posted together then?
I am waiting for a not at all important grade 3 cello. It's just that it is now past the window in which they said the results would be published (and that window started in the middle of June!)

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/07/2019 12:53

Theory exams are all taken at the same time on the same day, so results all come out together

Thistly · 09/07/2019 14:51

River, was the exam more than 4 weeks ago? In which case I think you can ring up and query them.
My dd got her result for her second study less than 3 weeks after sitting it; pleased to say she got a distinction ☺️, with high marks for her pieces.

I think the practical exams vary with the time taken, as it gets marked on the spot and then depends how long it takes the individual examiner to turn the paperwork round. Whereas the theory will have been sent out in batches to examiners who will have to return the results by a deadline.

More 🧁 anyone?

rivierliedje · 09/07/2019 18:54

Well done Thistly dd.
It will be four weeks at the end of the week, but they give timescales on the website about when results for practical exams are due and the latest date given for mine was Saturday past.
I am just being impatient.
I didn't know that about the theory exams, RIpple. It makes sense though.

Thistly · 09/07/2019 22:24

Thanks River🙂. Phone them up and hassle them! The exams cost enough money for them to get the results out on time x

Goodbyekittymum · 10/07/2019 09:20

Well done Thistlys dd!
river my nephew took his G1 piano exam on the 28th of June and they recieved their results on Monday.

Fingers crossed we will get Theory results on Friday Grin

Luckyfab · 10/07/2019 10:15

About theory test results. Do they send an email telling us results are ready or it is up to us to check ABRSM website to find out?

folkmamma · 10/07/2019 13:30

They do send an email, but IME that can come hours or even days after the results are posted so I tend to keep checking (hourly 🤣🤣🤣)

Chovihano · 10/07/2019 19:54

Proud mum, something I am allowed to say Grin
My dc is on Radio 3 now, for what might be some time.
I'm enjoying it atm, might not listen to it all

FiddleOnTheRoof · 10/07/2019 21:24

Hi Chovihano do you mean BBC 3 ?
