Subs for brownies/cubs

Twistmeandturnme · 21/07/2017 11:02

Can I please ask how much you pay each term/year for brownies or cubs, and whether this includes annual census payment/any materials/badges/trips etc?
I'm getting mixed feedback from my Brownie parents (I'm a Brown Owl) and although I'm pretty sure we are average locally, I'd like a broader view.
Thanks

We pay £12.50 pcm by dd for cubs , it represents excellent value for money. My son loves it. Last night they went to a swegway park! Badges are free. Uniform cost about £30. Trips are extra but not extortionate.

Twistmeandturnme · 21/07/2017 11:09

Is that all year vickibee? So £150 per year? segways sound amazing!

We pay ours annually and that sounds about right - we pay for uniform and trips out, but badges are free and there are lots of badges done during the course of the year within the meetings.

Synecdoche · 21/07/2017 11:14

I'm a Guide Leader and we charge £25 subs per term. We generally do one trip per term which costs extra.

Synecdoche · 21/07/2017 11:15

PS We pay for half the census and ask for a voluntary contribution for the other half!

Starlight2345 · 21/07/2017 11:17

We pay £10 a month DD that includes badges and local stuff they do like walk with chip shop at the end..The very odd thing like laser quest.Trips and camp extra

I would also think it would depend where you are in the country and room hire and size of group

How much do you charge Op?

drspouse · 21/07/2017 11:18

My Guides pay £8 every month by standing order (I think the PP means standing order too) and so do our feeder Brownies. Includes census and occasional trips though sometimes we charge full price and sometimes the unit makes a contribution.

LemonBreeland · 21/07/2017 11:18

Rainbows is £25 per term, 4 term a year and Scouts when DS1 was still there was £80 per year, but they are looking at increasing it.

Looneytune253 · 21/07/2017 11:19

£2 per session for us

Maryann1975 · 21/07/2017 11:20

I'm a brown owl, £2 per week here, payable termly, works out between £22-£28 a term depending how long the term is. Includes census, badges etc. There has been talk at district level of introducing a new member fee of £10 to cover the cost of books/bags/badges They are given when they start. It's very frustrating to have them leave after a term when you've spent more than a terms subs on getting them enrolled (new brownie book is £1 something, badge book is £4 (I think), bag is £3 ish, plus promise badge, six emblem, county and unit badge, certificate, it all adds up to be quite expensive).

Chasingsquirrels · 21/07/2017 11:26

£40 per term for beavers, cubs & scouts.
New to the section pay £10 joining fee, moving up from Beavers to Cubs pay £6 moving up fee
Covers weekly meetings, badges, census.
Buy own uniform and pay extra for trips - although never expensive.

Twistmeandturnme · 21/07/2017 11:26

We're currently charging £35 per term, including census, badges, books, all trips in meeting time, one or two smaller outings a year.
Additional; costs for uniform, camp, holidays, bigger organised trips.
Some of the parents would prefer an amount per session I think, but I can't make it work with overheads and census to pay for whether they turn up or not.

Our Rainbows pay £25 per term, which includes all badges. We usually do one trip per term, which we charge a small amount.

vickibee · 21/07/2017 12:02

ours sounds dearer than most. I don't mind paying it as I think it is amazing, this year he has been to a local radio station, a forensic science laboratory, Doncaster wildlife park, Woodhead Mountain Rescue. Experiences you could not get otherwise. He is 10 so has to move up to Scouts soon, he is ASD and likes what he knows, resistant to change etc and suffers from anxiety. He doesn't really have friends so it is helping with 'socialising'

SnowiestMountain · 21/07/2017 12:08

Beavers here but £8.50 per month including all badges, absolute bargain! Trips are extra but also cheap, £16.50 for a massive day out including an hour each way on the coach

PrincessScarlett · 21/07/2017 12:12

I pay £30 for brownies per term. Includes all badges and activities they do during brownie session. Extra is uniform, sleepovers and special outings.

LilithTheKitty · 21/07/2017 12:12

£15 standing order per month which covers badges and trips apart from camps.

LilithTheKitty · 21/07/2017 12:13

Sorry that's for Scouts by the way.

steppemum · 21/07/2017 12:21

twist - neither dd goes to Brownies any more but I think it was about 2 pounds per session with census on top. It did include badges.
new brownies did not get a badge book, you had to buy that.

dd1 now goes to scouts, she pays 4 pounds per week, which seems a lot. It must include everything though, as we are never asked for money for eg census.
It does NOT include any camps/trips outside meeting time. But they do lots of stuff which is included eg BBQ tonight.

I must say, 4 pounds feels pretty steep to us, but it is such a good unit that now, after 2 years, I would willingly pay more.

steppemum · 21/07/2017 12:22

with brownies we had th eoption to pay weekly or a whole term at once. You had to pay for weeks you missed.

Scouts it is collected weekly, again you pay for weeks you miss.

MaudAndOtherPoems · 21/07/2017 12:26

I was a Brown Owl until recently. Our subs were £25 to cover meetings, census, badges and most activities. Outings and residentials were extra and there was a one-off joining fee to cover books, backpack and the first set of badges.

SleepFreeZone · 21/07/2017 12:27

£30 a term for beavers.

BrownOwlknowsbest · 21/07/2017 12:42

Our Brownies charge £26 per term (3 terms a year) plus a one off starting fee to cover books and bag. This includes census and all activities during normal meeting times and all badges. Sleepovers and big trips away are extra.

MrsGabor · 21/07/2017 12:42

£18 per term at my Brownies (I'm a Snowy Owl) includes census but we do charge a joining fee of £15 to cover all books etc.

MrsGabor · 21/07/2017 12:45

Oh yep, includes all activities during meeting, & badges. Bigger trips, holidays, sleepovers are extra.

Guides very different due to exorbitant rent & more activities.
