Anyone else get embarassingly sweaty and red-faced during exercise?

I've always been like this when I exercise - I sweat really heavily (which is much better since I discovered moisture-wicking t-shirts etc) but my head and face sweats loads and my face is generally PUCE when I finish exercising. It's really quite embarassing - I'm a member of a poky small local gym, where you are practically running up other people's butt crack when on the treadmill etc and I have noticed that noone gets as sweaty and red as me! Does anyone else have this problem!?

I do too, it's hideous. When I go spinning the sweat drips off from my head onto the bike, oh the humiliation. I have actually thought that wearing a 1980's headband as fashioned by Pat Cash might be the very thing but is it more embarrassing to look a complete dork or a be a sweaty betty?!

jelliebelly · 28/04/2010 21:24

I share your pain - my face often stays shiney red for hours afterwards too so can never go anywhere immediately after going to the gym.

poorbuthappy · 28/04/2010 21:26

I think its meant to happen!
I still laugh about an ex friend of mine who went to the gym 3-4 times a week and never got toned or lost any weigh...I couldn't understand it until my hubby started at the same gym and reported that she never did enough exercise to sweat or go red, she stood around and talked alot

BooBooChicken · 28/04/2010 21:28

can i join your sweaty betty brigade, please?

BessieBoots · 28/04/2010 21:28

I'm like vthis. And when I work up a sweat, my fingers swell up and get itchy...

peggotty · 28/04/2010 21:32

Oh thank god! more sweaty people!!! YEs I have also considered an 80's headband, but feel that while it may catch the sweat it would also draw attention to my cerise chops .

I am too, I get salt residues on my face because I've sweated so much, and I'm completely beetroot too. Really embarrassing!

cyb · 28/04/2010 21:34

you ahve to sweat! and get red...soooo many women in my class dont even break into a sweat....how lame

Imfeckinpetigo · 28/04/2010 21:56

I feel much better now, pity we couldn't all be in the same class, compare our varying shades of red!

ShowOfHands · 28/04/2010 22:01

I don't sweat (no idea why) but I do turn bright, bright, bright red. Ridiculously red and it takes ages to go away. Always think I look unfit when I'm not at all.

I also get v itchy. My legs, stomach and boobs seem to get prickly heat when I work out or go for a run.

Katisha · 28/04/2010 22:04

This has started to happen to me recently. Came out of the gym one day and caught myself in the car mirror - yikes - completely scarlet face.

And was doing a hardish walk up a hill in the Peak District when DH suddenly asked if I was OK. Bright red again.

I think the answer is not to exercise.

HeadFairy · 28/04/2010 22:08

I tend to carry on sweating long after I've finished exercising too... makes it a nightmare at work when I go to the gym and I try and put some make up on to tone down the redness... it just slides off!

3billygoatsgruff · 28/04/2010 22:12

I've just started running & was walking down our local high street the other morning on my way home from running round the park & got so many strange looks. I realised I was deep red when I got home & looked in the mirror. Don't really sweat tho, which is odd cos in the sun I get a horrible sweat moustache, it's really attractive!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 28/04/2010 22:16

I'm just back from spinning and I'm STILL bright red (1 hr later!)

I like to think being very hot and sweaty= good workout! Some exercise nut once told me that if you are working hard enough to burn ft, your body temperature will shoot up, hence lots of sweating , so now I reassure myself that it means I am indeed burning fat!

SixtyFootDoll · 28/04/2010 22:21

My nick name used to be 'cherry head' when I was training with my colleagues

It take sme at least an hour to go back to normal colour after exercise.

I agree joooly - I was told the fitter you are the more you sweat!

CoupleofKooks · 30/04/2010 07:41

yes, i go so bright red that instructors at aerobics etc come over to see if i am ok
i also sweat like mad round my crotch
what a really nice thing to share with you

Ivykaty44 · 30/04/2010 22:15

I go bright red and sweat, especaily in spin, but then everyone really goes red or sweaty. Some people come in and put a towel down under the bike so they can sweat on the towel and have a towle for wiping there face - I didn't think there was anything odd about this some people just perspire more than others and go brighter red than others

Apparently you sweat less as you get older... but at least if you are all covered in sweat you enjoy the shower more and feel that you have had a good workout.
