Blenheim Triathlon

Hi. I'm doing the Swim part of the Blenheim Triathlon in June with 2 friends doing the other bits.

Can quite comfortably swim 750m but it has just dawned on me that actually I'd quite like to do it in a good time - so timed my swim this morning, 13.46. The winning bloke last year did his swim in 9.24!!! Will I be last????

If anyone has done it before I'd love to know what sort of ranges in times are likely for the swim part.

Thanks,

Bloss

It was the third tri I did a couple of years ago and swimming is my weakest discipline so I swam it very steadily in 17 mins. I was middle of the pack even at that pace so there are plenty of slow swimmers at Blenheim I think as it is such an gentle and scenic course. Good luck! I looked to enter again this year but left it too late sadly.

You won't be last, don't worry! The fastest swimmers are very fast but there's not all that many of them.

You should be able to download last year's results as a pdf from their website - that will make you feel better!

PS pick your start position carefully. I was advised by Richard Stannard (who I bumped into when training down at Liquid Leisure) that it is worth starting away from the crowds at the far end furthest away from the start of the pontoon so you don't get caught in the starting scramble for places and can get into your stroke easily. It means you will swim further than 750m but if you are a fast swimmer this should still be a worthwhile tactic as there is nothing worse than getting stuck behind a wall of breaststrokers!
