i am very

i took a practice run at the bleep test today - ive got to get to level 5, shuttle 4.

today i got to level 4 shuttle 2. thats BAD!!!

how on earth does anyone pass the flipping thing?

im 38, admittedly not the fittest thing on two legs but even so!

ive got a copy to practice it, but i just wasnt quick enough - stamina i have, speed i dont.

how can i ensure i pass this when the time comes? do you think if i practice it enough i will speed up? really worried now...

I have absolutely nothing of use to tell you, but I can thoroughly recommend Radox for after.

Bleep tests irritate the crap out of me - I'm certain the machine is calibrated to bleep just as you're 3 feet short of target, regardless of speed.

Practice will make perfect, I'm sure. It perhaps won't take long for your speed to increase if you're training specifically to that goal.

MayorNaze · 07/03/2010 16:44

who do you need to do it? i last did in GCSE PE...a LONG time ago...

BertieBotts · 07/03/2010 16:44

I got about 4.2 on it when we did it at school - can't remember really. It was horrible though!

I agree I think practice will make perfect And at least it's something measureable so as you practice you will be able to see it improving.

GoddessInTheKitchen · 07/03/2010 16:46

the bleep test is EVIL (thats an evil emoticon btw) good luck though, i guess practice will do it

MayorNaze · 07/03/2010 16:49

i meant why, btw, not who

please tell me it's not for "fun." there are much more funner funs to be had...

WorzselMummage · 07/03/2010 16:51

I had to be hypnotised to pass it..

GypsyMoth · 07/03/2010 16:54

I was best at it in our intake at Hendon! The boys didn't like that!

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2010 16:57

I can get to level 13 on the bleep test.

You can get to 5.4, you absolutely can. This is your career and you're going to do it you hear me? You've been looking forward to this.

Google, there's places online where you can get the timings for each bleep. Make sure you're not going all out too soon. Walk the first bit, leave plenty of time, don't panic and just run out of 'got to get there' thinking.

The thing is stamina, not speed. How long till your next try? This is a progressive maximal testing [yawn], things like swimming and interval training will boost your stamina and allow you to do it.

farmerjones · 07/03/2010 16:59

practice rpactice practice
improve your general fitness
practice some more

good luck

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2010 16:59

ThreeBlondeBoys, when was that? Don't use Hendon anymore do they? Was all excited that dh might be buggering off for training but nah, it's all in house now.

I must point out that I got 13 once and it was a long time ago, certainly before dd and I was a teenager.

GypsyMoth · 07/03/2010 17:05

God was back in the 90's!!! Ended up stationed not far from hendon at golders green. Happy days!

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2010 17:08

Golders Green a bit more exciting than DH's Norfolk beat presumably.

Quick, quick, man seen worrying cow etc.

thanks everyone - and its really not my idea of fun Mayornaze.! ive got to do it as part of my police training.

today was a officer safety training refresher, and as yet the bleep test isnt compulsory for specials however,
i have got in as a regular (yay! i think...) the bleep test will be compulsory meaning i have to pass it. i'll have it 5 times within the first 2 years. today was just a practice with the OST course, but it it was an eye opener! i was sooo crap it was embarrassing!

i will ache tomorrow as we spent 6 hours leaping round a gym so think ill give tomorrow a miss and start practice runs on Wednesday. (i wont be able to walk tomorrow let alone run!)

on Weds my neighbours will be treated to the sight of me running up and down the back garden. fun., not!

also think id better start the interval training again, im ashamed to say ive rather let the running lapse in the recent bad weather. this really has given me a kick up the backside to start again. i cant afford to not pass it. now i know why its called the BLEEP test - that bleep is a substitute expletive.

god i feel old...

Good luck Vicar. Do you do the push/pull test as part of your fitness assessment? Practice that at the gym too!

ThatVikRinA22 · 10/03/2010 16:57

i do indeed SOH....the dynamic push pull test.

got to be able to push 35kg and pull 36kg. so ill be making use of the weights aswell.
