Help me decide, do I join the gym or not?

I really want to get fit, my local leisure centre has a gym and pool etc that I can join for £20 per month with unlimited use including fitness classes. Question is, is it worth it? DH reckons it's pointless as I can just go for a run or use weights etc at home. However I feel that knowing I can go there for half hour or whatever would give me more encouragement especially as I work quite a lot have 3 kids, and not having to endure bad weather etc plus it's not far from home. Also I know he says it's £20 I could spend on something else but I think it may be a good investment, health wise.

Any opinions?

It's easy.If you will go regulalry, it is worth it.
If you won't it isn't.
Most people don't go to the gym regularly.

do you have to sign up for a certain amount of time? If not, just do a trial month or 2 and if you like it then it's worth every penny and if you don't then try something else - running club might be good - but £20 per month sounds pretty cheap to me

£20 seems good value - if there is no lock-in then you should be able to give a months notice so only £20 being risked. I joined my local Centre Gym and it really does make me exercise as I now have a routine of attending - it is easier to find other pressing things at home.

Well it's a 6 month minimum contract but I can use any of 6 leisure centres in the area including the pools and fitness classes. I just feel I'm more likely to go if I don't have to brave the elements to go running in the rain etc. As I said time is a huge factor but I feel I would benefit more from 20 mins on treadmill at gym rather than trying to drag myself around local park

£20! I'm my gym cost over double that and was just a council run centre, very basic.
