silly question but runners out there, how do you measure the distance you run?

am i doing it the hard way with my street map and piece of string? im already hooked up to a watch and mp3 so dont really want any more gagetry attatched to me but is there another way a web site maybe?

Before "technology", I used to go out in the car and measure one or two of my routes to get an idea of my pace (eg a 10 minute/mile pace). Then I could calculate how long other runs were.
