Is it age?
Is it hormones?
Is it motherhood?

I do combat and Pump about twice a week each and am toning up all over. But still seem to be straight up and down at the waist.

I used to have bigger thighs and bum and small waist - but now my legs are slimmer and bum is smaller - but waist is so much thicker!

Any ideas on specific exercises for this area? or am I just being impatient and hould just keep on with the cardio and it'll eventually give in?

Work on your core stability too.

But motherhood and hormones do change your body shape. Your stomach may always be a little thicker but you can improve it but you need to work quite hard at it.

TracyK · 06/05/2009 14:05

Not so much my stomach - it's down to half a roll of fat from 3 rolls of fat.

It's more my sides and waist. I do plank and side planks at the end of my classes - but my sides feel solid rather than mushy/fat iykwim.

For breakfast I usually have a veg juice of celery, ginger, apple and avocado. But sometimes toast and jam. Try and have only 1 cup of coffee with 2 biscuits a day. Lunch is usually bread based - ie a sarnie - no imagination and too cold for salads yet.

Snack on brazil and macadamia nuts (maybe too many!. Sometimes cream crackers and cheese or crisps.

Dinner - usually a homemade curry or oven baked fish in breadcrumbs and chips and veg or omlette.

I know quite a lot of unsaturated fat in my diet - but I have psoraisis and am trying to eat nuts and avocados for the oils.

Was your body shape always like that?

I have found that I am more blobby round the waist now I am older, though I never had a washboard stomach!

Overmydeadbody · 06/05/2009 14:09

I'd ditch the nuts as a regular snack to be honest, huge amounts of calories in brazils and macadamias.

Overmydeadbody · 06/05/2009 14:11

To put it into perspective: 50g ( a handful) of macadamias contain 360 calories. That's an awful lot of calories to have as well as your normal meals.

No my body has swapped round. Used to have big legs and bum, no boobs and small waist. Now slimmer legs and bum, bigger boobs and thicker waist.

Can't win.

Don't I need the protein and oils from the nuts?
Should I up my meat intake for the protein instead? I'm rubbish at buying/cooking meat/fish. I usually buy it/can't find inspiration on how to cook it/throw it in bin or freezer and it's never seen again.

Your diet sounds fine.

I imagine it's the type of exercise you're doing that's changing your body shape.
Doing alot of sit-ups generally helps tone that area.

TracyK · 06/05/2009 22:05

I do always think that pump and combat skimp on the situp type excercise. I've started an ABS blast class on a Sunday - so will see if that helps.
