Anyone doing/done a Race for Life this year - and if so what's on your ipod... looking for good running tunes

Doing Battersea tomorrow and really looking forward to it. It's the only race I ever do (this is my tenth year) and I find it incredibly moving and life affirming at the same time. Anyway will be doing it with an ipod for the first time and have put a few running tunes on there and discovered it really makes a difference to how fast/well I run.

My current faves are She's so Lovely - Scouting for Girls and rather aptly Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen.

Would love to add a few more good ones in though before tomorrow - so if you have a running favourite that's inspirational, please let me know.

And if you're doing Battersea tomorrow, I'll be the puce, puffing one with the pink ipod - singing along to Bruce Springsteen do come and say hello!

Megglevache · 05/05/2009 15:42

oh an iPod what a good idea. Saves the embarrassment of talking really out of breath doesn't it.

Genius!

Megglevache · 05/05/2009 15:43

meant to add to the last post.

Basement Jaxx brill music for moving to.

DoodleFluUseATissue · 05/05/2009 15:43

Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats and Dogs - Brian & Michael with St Winifred's School Choir.

Yes, it's shoite but I WAS ON IT!!!!!!! Makes me run in a slightly sideways type gait though

WowOoo · 05/05/2009 15:46

Love running to Daftpunk and Hot Chip. The repetitive ness good for pace.

Have to put Eye of the Tiger for the end or that song from Rocky for a laugh!

Have fun pink face!

newgirl · 05/05/2009 15:48

ooh if you like scouting for girls try these too:

girls aloud - promise

fascintation - by alphabeat - that is uplifting!

lily allen -LDN (why oh why would i wanna be anywhere else....)

i predict a riot - that will get you rev'd up!

have fun!

carriemumsnet · 11/05/2009 13:10

Ok so top tip...don't leave ipod lock OFF and then get to race and realise you have no battery!!

Ah well, managed anyway, and ran with Rachelmumsnet so although couldn't speak at least had company of someone puffing near me. The whole thing is so inspirational, I spent the race reading the I race for life for.... pink things on people's backs.

Thanks for some top suggestions, am going to get onto itunes tonight.

And good luck to everyone doing Race for Life - enjoy

PS I challenge anyone to have a pinker (should that be pucer?) face than me after a 5k run!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 12:56

Me June 14th Darlington, i havent put together my own tune stuff yet but i always flick onto this really slow sad old ancient song by Herb Albert or something and i always get back to my house almost in tears

stickylittlefingers · 17/05/2009 18:01

hey nappyzone are you thinking of doing the Durham one for the hospice as well?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 21:08

ooooo when is that? durham is a little out of my way - im more teesside neck of the woods though a friends is trying to convince me to do a 10k in sunderland - where you at?

stickylittlefingers · 18/05/2009 11:39

Durham (so exactly my neck of the woods!). It's on the 21st June... for Grace's hospice and has a pirate theme, and dd1 is keen to try the mini 1km so I thought it might be fun. When is the Sunderland 10k? I ought to do one fairly soon (I have a place for the GNR in September, so am trying to train towards that - ambition to run the whole thing...) but there is one next week in Northumberland (WAY too soon) and then next month at Castle Howard, which I'm sure would be a lovely place to do it but is a bit of a way to drive pre and post running. Sunderland would be much more handy.
