I need to start. I will either have to go at 6 every morning so I can get back & showered by 6.45 before the children wake up, or after 7.30 at night once DH is home. One feels too early & the other to late - I work as well so am often shattered by the childrens bedtime. If I only go on a weekend then it's not going to do much good is it?
what do you do?

I work from home so usually go straight after taking kids to school so I can be back home and showered ready to start work at 9.30 on a couple of days and then go once at the weekend before breakfast.

When I worked in an office I used to finish a bit earlier (in the good old flexi time days!) and go for a run then. Some people used to go at lunchtimes as the building we were in had changing facilities, but they were so minging I wouldn't go near them.

7.30 isn't too bad in summer but hard in winter. I couldn't manage 6 in the morning.

I go early morning at weekend before breakfast - gives me a good energy boost.
Also go evening when DD in bed (after 7) its tough and I make myself go even when tired. It's good though again as it gives me energy and I feel brilliant when I'm done. Summer is the best time, winter I do treadmill when dark.

Have you got any friends who would run with you? Running with a "buddy" is so much better, you can begin slowly and have a natter as your warm up!!

2 evenings in the week. About 6pm. And then Sunday mornings - I take longer them.

In the week I go at 7 in the morning which is hard but ok after I get going. Couldn't do the evening as I slob then! At the weekend I go Saturday about 9am whilst DS1 at his sports club and DH has DS2.

When DS2 starts school in September will be able to go after drop off at school so no more 7am runs..horray!

I do it in the evening once a week aiming to 2 or 3 times in the future (I have just started).

My Dcs go to Karate and there is a nice down hill bit from there back to my house (I know I know it is cheating but it is just the start and I need to boost my confidence up ).

What I do is that I go in the car with DH to karate venue and run back towards home while he stays with the dcs. It is just about 1/2 but it feels great! I second the "buddy" advice.

Oh, and I like doing it in the evening because there is less people arround. Whenever I go fur a run in the local park I feel very concious of the people arround and do not do very well.

1/2 hour BTW!

At the moment I'm only running at the weekend since DD2 is a poor sleeper and I've been too tired to get up early. But I prefer to run early in the morning and get a good start to the day. Now it's lighter and dd2 is finally sleeping through (at 13mo it's about bloody time! ) I'm planning to get some morning runs in. But I also go to the gym 2 mornings and one evening a week.

I recently ran a half marathon on weekend running alone (plus half an hour on the treadmill at gym the last few weeks before the race), so it is do-able.

Some people prefer to run early, some in the evenings. I'm a morning girl myself. I'd suggest trying them both to see which you prefer.

DH gets in about 7.15pm and I go then. TBH it revitalises me and feels like a real break rather than just eating dinner and collapsing in front of the tv, ot catching up on jobs. I have a really lovely night's sleep afterwars too. Just hard to get out the door sometimes, though the lighter, warmer evenings should make it easier.

If you work does your workplace have a shower? I try and go in my lunchhour for 30minutes so 10minutes to get changed and out and then 20mins left to shower and get back to my desk.
