Runners - please tellme how you time yourself doing interval training?

I have started a running programme for beginners (Guardian's 0-5k) which builds up running stamina by doing 1 min running, 1 minute walking. As the programme progresses, it goes to 3 mins running, 1 min walking and so on.

My question is: How do you time yourself?

So far, I have been doing all my workouts on the treadmill, precisely because I can time myself. I tried wearing a stopwatch when I was out running, but found it too fiddly to look at my watch when I was running as it put me off my stride.

Are there any running watches which you can set to beep at different intervals? How do other people do it?

couch to 5k

get yourself over here to the encouragement thread. giddykipper kicked it off and posted links to www.coolrunnings.com and a guy called robert ullrey does podcasts for it.

Great, thanks.

So if it is a podcast, the idea is that you run with headphones on, and there are regular beeps?

Which brings me on to another question - how do run with earphones in? Do they not fall out?
