How much do you pay for riding lessons?

DD1 has the chance to start lessons through school, and I was just wondering what the going rate was.

She has the chance to do an hour's group riding lesson, then 1/2 hour of stable skills/pony care for £16. Is that average?

Thanks muchly.

I asked the same question about six months ago, got varied responses depending on area - I emailed one near me (southeast) - they charged £35 for one hour

so I think you have an excellent bargain

Really wanted to buy my foster daughter some for Christmas but it's too expensive so she's getting a new bike instead.

Child's group lesson - one hour - costs £14 at the stables I use.

Think you've got a good deal there!

Where we go it's 1/2 hour group lesson followed by 1/2 hour ride out, for £18 a pop.

what age can children start?
i would love to go with my dd

At our stables, their insurance won't cover children under 5.

The local stables here charge £90 for 6 lessons and 7th is free. Novices have instruction for half an hour.
Once they are a little more experienced, the fee goes up to £20 per hour.

Thanks everyone, looks like it's quite good value then!

I used to ride a million years ago when I was her age, but have no idea what it cost (probably about 7 pence an hour or something )

Shall sign her up - have to pay half a term at a time though (gulp) but I think she'll love it.

£17 per hour group lesson.
for 8yrs plus it is £20 for a 2 hour 'mucking out' and general pony care plus ride out.
