I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

good nice thriving thread even with dark days . i have managed second evening run and it is ok - much less daunting than a swim and long walk home with wet hair. will try again tonight unless it is very wet.

sfxmum sorry to hear about knee. had buggered hip due to wrong shoes a few months ago, it got better really quickly so hope yours is similar.

i am old too and like ROCK on my ipod, ac/dc, led zep etc. but i have started getting cds from library which makes for much more odd stuff, have got depeche mode singles this week. there are a couple of songs which i always have, but otherwise i fiddle around with playlist about once a week. currently enjoying def leppard put some sugar on me!

OrmIrian · 27/11/2008 14:49

How ill do you have to be not to go out? I have a cold - a quite nasty one but no temperature or anything serious. Do you run in those circumstances. I am havering a bit...

hatwoman · 27/11/2008 15:56

good question OI - for me it would depend on the rest of the week and what my current aims are. I'm trying to do 4 times a week at the moment. so if i feel bad on the Monday of a normal week I'm more likely to stay in, but if it was wednesday and I hadn;t done a run that week and/or the rest of the week was busy then I'd haul myself out. but if I haven't got an aim in mind or a schedule then I stay home. in fact I stay home full stop without aims or schedules...cold or no cold

SmilesLikeNoOther · 27/11/2008 16:12

I think I would have to be officially dead Orm! Allthough d&v stops me in my tracks.

DS is pacing me on his bike tonight unless he wimps out due to the weather.

Heyyy hatwoman....errrrrr, won't put location on here but I know calver! and am not ever so far from chatsworth.
e-mail [email protected] my MN e-mail address for regular threads.

Welcome back te peak district un all that.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 27/11/2008 17:08

that would be pur some sugar on me I just have my ipod on shuffle, preferred bands for running are NIN and new model army, again showing my age.
trying to decide ,my route for tommorow, I dont like to be too far away in case anything happens to dd's but doing laps of the park drives me barmy.

MarshaBrady · 27/11/2008 17:13

Ok I went, twas ok, bit better.

Put my keys in my right pocket instead of left and it bugged me all the way round. I am so hypersensitive when running, no hair in the eyes, laces double knotted, earphones not moving.
Crazy!
Anyone else have things that need to be just so?

ambercat · 27/11/2008 18:20

Some good songs listed here, have updated my ipod, thanks guys! OrmIrian i think you are one junction up the m5 from me (remember from another thread!) maybe we should attempt a run one day on the hills!

Am going for a long run tomorrow with 2 friends, quite looking forward to it, hope its not too fast!

sfxmum, must be good to know what is wrong.

fishie · 27/11/2008 20:28

aha yes so it is sockmonster. in the library they have a lot of 'funeral for a friend' cds, is this good running music?

marsha i have found that loose hair is less likely to go into face than tied up. i can't bear taking keys at all and hide them by door.

sfxmum · 27/11/2008 21:00

good running music this been running to this for most of the summer
this makes me run too

grin

sfxmum · 27/11/2008 21:02

dh told me I better heal soon or stop moaning about it

SmilesLikeNoOther · 27/11/2008 21:25

Absolutely marsha. The flex to my earphones is held in place with daughters hairslides. Nothing jangly in pockets. Hair not a problem as it is only 1 inch long.
Great run with Ds on bike..faster than normal and he wanted to talk!
But now I feel poorly, very nauseus and cramping stomach pains

Might take it easy tomorrow. (ha-ha)

HarrogateMum · 28/11/2008 09:28

Went to the gym last night with a friend who had a free pass (I used to be a member years ago but its so EXPENSIVE!). I used to love running on treadmills. And this time I HATED it - it seemed much much harder than running outside! Truly I must be a convert now. I ran 5.5km and it killed me! Felt really faint afterwards so dont think I will be going back....

ambercat · 28/11/2008 11:18

Had such a lovely run today, 2 friends and me, we took it steady, did 8 miles and i felt good apart from the last bit which was uphill!, think i'm getting into running with someone, it definately makes time fly!

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/11/2008 17:08

I had a great run this morning, 5.5miles, when I got back I was both hot and freezing cold at the same time.
I run with a handbag, how funny is that.
did take me an hour though so I do need to speed up a bit.

SmilesLikeNoOther · 29/11/2008 07:03

at running with handbag sockmonster. but really glad you enjoyed your run.
Have been to ill to run but am going to try a gentle one in a minute.

hatwoman · 29/11/2008 20:38

hello everyone. your 8 miles sounds nice ambercat. I did 5 this morning and am going to do 7 or 8 tomorrow. I weighed myself today for the first time in about two months and I've lost 4-5 pounds! in fairness two months ago I was a couple of pounds heavier than my normal maximum. I'd love to loose a bit more - not much as I haven;t got much to spare but a few more pounds would be nice.

you'll have to explain the handbag sockmonster...

ambercat · 29/11/2008 21:21

Yes i am fasinated by running with a handbag! sounds like something i would do!

SmilesLikeNoOther · 30/11/2008 00:08

I am a bit like you hatwoman and don't really have any weight left to lose, I think if I do lose anymore, actual limbs will start falling off. This is partly due to the fact that I get abdominal migraines every three weeks or so that slaughter my appetite.

I got out for my run this morning, and it was lovely. I don't often get the chance to run early in the morning but might try at the weekends occassionally as it was a completely different experience to running at night.
I went to sainsbury's as it opened and every one was lovely and unstressed by the day.

MrsWednesday · 30/11/2008 13:51

Such beautiful weather for running today, cold, crisp and sunny. Managed a steady 7m and feel on top of the world now

Also v intrigued about how you run with a handbag - doesn't it bounce around a lot?

Hatwoman, do you track your weight on your log book on the good run guide site? Only realised last week that I could do it - noticed that I have managed to lose nearly a stone since I started putting more miles in (unfortunately mostly from my boobs which have disappeared).

Sorry to hear about your injury sfxmum, have they said how long you need to rest for? Can you still get out for a walk even if you can't run? Fresh air and change of scenery always good.

HarrogateMum, do you have a runners watch? You can set yourself pace targets on one, do intervals etc that might help. Well you're supposed to be able to do that, I haven't worked out how to yet!

sunshine75 · 30/11/2008 13:58

Me too. Have been running for over 20 years but post-baby (7 months) have not really got back into fully. Need some motivation to get back into running as opposed to half-hearted jogging

CurrantBun · 30/11/2008 14:13

Hello, please can I join you? I am a regular (mainly) recreational runner - four runs a week, between 25-30 miles per week. Have been running regularly for about 8 years now and before I had my son (now 21 months) I used to do quite a lot of racing. I ran the London Marathon for the third time in 2006 (3:23) but haven't really raced since due to a combination of pregnancy then motherhood = lack of time to do sufficient training to mount an assault on my PB. Not prepared to go through the slog that is marathon training unless there's a good chance of a new PB, which is why I haven't really focused on racing.

I really enjoy running just for the sake of it though, although I do plan what I'm going to do each week otherwise I probably wouldn't get out there. I tend to do three runs of between 3 and 7 miles during the week, then one long run of 10-14 at the weekend.

I am really tiny and have to be careful that my weight doesn't drop too much - when I'm training for a marathon despite eating loads I virtually disappear!

Did 10 miles this morning - weather here is absolutely foul; cold, wet and windy, so I was quite pleased to have done that and wouldn't really have been up for going further today.

sfxmum · 30/11/2008 15:14

hi all great to see new people

mrsW seems to be 'see how it goes' doing exercises etc, at least it no longer hurts when going down the stairs but am desperate to go out and also very apprehensive, last time I tried ended up crying in frustration but it was before I knew what was really going on and did something to sort it out.

happy running all

sunshine75 · 30/11/2008 16:08

Inspired - just ran for 36 mins!!!

I WILL one day get back to 6min miles and 2hour long runs on a sunday (actually I'd settle for being able to jog for an hour at the moment)

sunshine75 · 30/11/2008 16:10

Currant Bun - a 3.23 marathon is not recreational. Respect

hatwoman · 30/11/2008 16:21

blimey I hadn't noticed 3.23 - that's fantastic. I just looked it up and 3.15 is the championship qualifying time. I'm also a bit stunned by the 6 minute miles...I'm such a plodder...

currantbun - you used to be on the old thread didn't you?
