Had left eye done yesterday (Sunday) and I’m climbing the walls with boredom today. I usually swim x1 pw, run x3 ( including parkrun) and gym x2 . All off for a fortnight, and 4 weeks for swimming. I’m nervous about running again after only a fortnight but also desperate to get back to it. Has anyone had any experience / advice / warnings about the timescale? Follow up appointment is in four weeks. TIA

I was given exactly the same advice as you - no strenuous exercise or swimming until post op checkup. I stuck to it, got the all clear and started exercising again the next day . I then had flashing lights in the eye that had been operated on whilst I was exercising and had to get an emergency appointment at the opticians. Thankfully it was only a partial separation of the vitreous gel and not the retina detaching, which you can be more prone to after eye surgery.
So my advice would be, stick to the schedule you've been given. You don't want to risk your eyesight.

Thanks for sharing this, and hope you’re ok now. Yes, it’s not worth the risk. Never mind, at least I can see to swim outdoors now without prescription goggles !

DS goes to the gym at least five times a week but she stuck to the advice rigidly. Don’t forget you can go for a walk!
