Kiltwalk advice

I am doing the 21 mile kilt walk next Sunday. I went out today for an 8 mile walk and my legs and hips felt pretty sore. Any advice to get through it? Trying to work out if ibuprofen or anything else will help. TIA!

Have you done much training? What’s your general level of fitness like? Are you legs and hips painful or just tired and uncomfortable?

If 8 miles is the most you’ve done in a while, you are now at getting through it stage rather than being able to do anything in a week to improve your fitness.

So comfy shoes you’ve worn in, snacks you’re used to eating, and paracetamol is safer than ibuprofen if you’re doing more intense activity than you are used to.

What is the maximum you’ve got to in training?

Stretch before you go out, make sure you have good socks, nothing new for walk day though, wear tried and tested stuff, make sure you have plenty of fuel on board and for the way round. Ibuprofen will help the pain but might mask pain that is warning you about injury so I wouldn’t proactively take painkillers before exercise tell but maybe take some with you in case you need. Pack blister plasters! Deep Freeze spray can be helpful too.

Biggest issue is your feet.
good thick hiking socks and hiking boots is my choice but it may be too late for a footwear change.
stretch at every station.

pack ibuprofen and travel light (bum bag for me!)
good luck. It’s a fun day out.

Have you trained for it? I'm assuming not if you're sore after only 8 miles.

I wore tried & tested hiking boots but most of the route was concrete. It killed my knee and it tooks months to get back to normal - i should have worn trainers with more shock absorbtion

God I’ve signed up for the one below and I’m dreading now 🤣 I am going to blister plaster before the blisters appear 🤣
