Smelly gym wear

igoteyesonyou · 04/05/2026 19:24

I work out everyday, a very sweaty person even on weight days.

Aside from buying new gym wear ever 6months what can I do get the smell out of my gym wear. I’ve tried all the usual, vinegar, bicarbonate soda, soda crystals, no fabric softer just detergent.

I’m sick of buying nice gym stuff to only have them catch a smell really quickly that I can’t get rid of.

note: I wash my gym stuff everyday as soon as i am done working out so the smell doesn’t sit in!

Have you tried the Dr Beckman odour remover stuff? I find it works better if you brush it directly onto the clothes rather than just putting it in the washing machine

Capful of Zoflora in the conditioner drawer?

cravingmilkshake · 04/05/2026 19:27

Dettol

Perrygreen · 04/05/2026 19:28

Wash inside out and line dry.
Try a natural, non greasy deodorant?

Helpwithdivorce · 04/05/2026 19:28

dettol laundry cleanser works for me and I’m very sweaty

I use this and do a full length wash, not a shorter wash.

Dettol laundry cleanser. Soak some in the armpit area and wash as normal.

Sebora · 04/05/2026 20:06

I swear by dettol laundry cleanser in every wash. I have a potty training toddler, gym gear and a sweaty husband and haven’t ever noticed lingering smells!

Detail laundry sanitiser, soak it in that and water as per the pack, then add it to the wash too (powder, no softener)

dementedpixie · 04/05/2026 20:12

I spray dr beckmann antiperspirant stain remover on the armpits. Wash in bio powder with fabulosa sanitiser in the fabric softener compartment

Daisydoesnt · 04/05/2026 20:13

dettol laundry sanitiser. It works for us when all else has failed! It really really works

wonderingwhatsnext · 04/05/2026 20:13

I wash the gym kit with laundry sanitiser. Good results even on a cool, quick wash.

I use gym wash https://www.gymwash.com/. I know it is not cheap but it works & does last ages.

This stuff works its really good not expensive per wash

donotmissyourchancetoblow · 04/05/2026 20:23

Halo sports wash it’s made for this sort of thing.
for anything that’s already a bit smelly, soak it in white vinegar for 20-30 mins before washing and don’t use fabric softener.
also wash it on a 40degree wash and don’t use a quick eg 30min cycle. Your clothes should smell fresh after

persisted · 04/05/2026 20:30

Nikwax base fresh is good for tech fabrics, or the dettol one, and full wash cycle
