Weights routine for twice weekly gym session

I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week doing some cardio and some weights, mainly on the weights machines. I'm wondering if it is still to do a mixture each time e.g. pull down arms, push arms, pecs, and similar with legs, or is it better to concentrate on pull down arms one day but do more reps, and push up weights during another session again with more reps. And similarly for legs. I'm over 60 if that makes any difference!

For 2-3 days, and a novice, I’d do full body each time with push, pull and legs movements in there each time. Splitting by body parts comes from bodybuilding and isn’t a great approach for lots of people. I’m a powerlifter training 4 times a week and my programme isn’t split by body parts. The best programme though is the one you’ll do consistently, so if splitting by body parts sounds really fun to you and will keep your interest more, go for it.
