Just had a text from the pal who keeps telling me I exercise too much. She thinks I'm ill because I've been exercising too much.

Hey ho.

you know what they say 'opinions are like erseholes, abdy's got one'

Oft I was alarmed to hear you'd taken a heider doon the steps. Hope you're not too sair.

WearyAuldWumman · 07/10/2026 12:47

@BezMills

Thanks, neebs. A did a better twist than yon Tam Daley comin aff the diving board... It's amazing what you can do when you realise you're about to land on a slug!

Still sore in places - and bruised in some really weird places - but I don't think I broke anything. Genuinely annoyed at my own stupidity.

I was always prone to falling, thanks to the flat feet and dodgy knees and I've not had a tumble since I started back at the gym. Running doonstairs wi yer bauchled shin only half oan is not a good idea.

I can recommend Woodside Co-op for deliveries: very prompt - better than Morrison's or Asda's!

The shingles pain has mainly gone and I can breathe much more easily now, so that's good. I'm thinking of messaging the Running Club trainer to say that I'll go to Riverside to cheer the other women over the line on Saturday.

BezMills · 07/10/2026 14:29

They'd be delighted to see you at the finish line @WearyAuldWumman

This past Sunday was the local marathon. A particularly hilly bastard of a course, with a long unrelenting hill at the end which only flattens out for the last 1000m. I had two of my participants in the race, and was there at the end with the bluetooth speaker blasting the Rocky instrumental to run them in. I promised them chips and drinks, which were received with gratitude.

As for my wee side hustle side hustle with the cooncil gym, I'm just going through all the DBS etc, it's taking ages but just a matter of time before I'm on the books. As soon as I'm kosher to get involved, I hope to lead a couple of tracks in the regular class to get back in the game. I'll be covering the class regularly in the near future and am really looking forward to that. I do enjoy being a participant but leading the class is something else and I've really missed it. I've not taught a class since september 23 so it's been a minute!

WearyAuldWumman · 07/10/2026 14:33

Finishing to the Rocky theme? Brilliant!

From what I've heard from the trainers at Michael Woods, it's always the paperwork that holds things up. It was the same in teaching. It used to be DBS, but at some point that changed to PVG. (Mind you, it doesnae always stop the bad yins...We've had a few in Fife.)

BezMills · 07/10/2026 14:38

I think the one for the cooncil is a wee bit more in-depth than my basic DBS which took like 3 days. This one has already been going 10 days and I'm on step 3 of 5 so far. I'm no bothered by having to do it, it's just hard to be patient!

WearyAuldWumman · 07/10/2026 14:39

Hope it gets sorted quickly.

i know that we've had gym classes here held up because the whole signing off process took so long.

ETA I think that the PGV for school just involves checking for a police record. Unfortunately, that's not really enough to catch someone with ill intent working in schools.

The PGV check does take aaaages though - we had a nightmare one time, being unable to organise a teacher for a shortage subject when we had someone able and ready to start... We finished up paying them to organise the work and send it in to the school to be delivered by cover staff.

Comtesse · 07/10/2026 23:55

Keep trucking everyone. Worked like a loon today (like 15 hours today) so all I could manage was 20 mins of anti stress yoga.

Hope you are ok @WearyAuldWumman and on the mend soon - I’d be using tons of arnica cream after a fall, buckets of it !

Alittlefrustrated · 09/10/2026 20:40

62 x 25m swim
156.

stilldumdedumming · 09/10/2026 23:22

Just flying by. I am exceptionally busy but back in some kind of routine. I will need to get back for chats.

Alittlefrustrated · 10/10/2026 18:10

6.6 mile walk with some decent gradients. It was a guided history walk and very enjoyable.
157.

WearyAuldWumman · 10/10/2026 18:31

Drove to the car park closest to Riverside Park start line.

Walked down the hill, spoke to the officials and checked where was best to stand to clap and cheer.

Cheered in most of the runners and then saw our coach going to the line - he yelled for me to meet him there. Then positioned myself where he told me - he wanted to photograph the other women coming in.

As I was waiting for them, two (unknown) people whom I'd cheered in thanked me. One young was kind enough to say that I'd got her through the last straight - which was nice.

The running club did brilliantly. The woman closest in age to me is in the 60-64 category and she came in just after 45 minutes.

Photographs were taken and I walked back up the hill to the car park. That nearly did for me. Think it's going to take a while to get back to training - breathing was the issue.

Comtesse · 10/10/2026 21:11

20 mins motown dance workout. That was very nice of you @WearyAuldWumman to cheer on the others - a good deed for sure!

Alittlefrustrated · 12/10/2026 17:22

54 x 25m swim

Comtesse · 13/10/2026 12:22

Comtesse · 16/10/2026 07:14

20 mins of bedtime yoga last night. Rotten cold so that was as energetic as it was going to get!

Iamblossom · 16/10/2026 07:27

Peers in....

So somewhere we just come and talk about what exercise we do? That sounds right up my street...

Iamblossom · 16/10/2026 20:31

Today's efforts were a Legs Bums and Tums class, that I took my 20 year old son to which was hilarious, and surprisingly hard....my legs are going to be jelly tomorrow after all those squats and I didn't even hold weights doing them.....a half hour walk on an inclined treadmill holding 3kg weights ....and 32 lengths of a pool.

Tbh it was a spa day with my boy, I wouldn't normally do an hour and a half of exercise 😂

Alittlefrustrated · 16/10/2026 22:04

40 x 25m swim
159.

Iamblossom · 17/10/2026 14:37

I have DOMs from the class yesterday and my son has messaged me to say he can barely walk 🤣🤣🤣
Today's efforts were a Pilates class and a half hour incline treadmill walk and then some weights

WearyAuldWumman · 17/10/2026 16:35

Still not right. Have what I hope is the last of a cough, but now on ant-bacterials for a kidney infection - probably because of being run down by the flu and shingles, according to he practice nurse.

On top of all that, turns out that the legal thing I thought was sorted is not fully finished. Yeeeeeesh!

Anyway, still wobbly, but past the contagious stage so walked to the library down the town centre to do the necessary photocopying (so that I can finally get the legal stuff off my back) and walked back again.

Think I kept a decently brisk pace and my legs are tired by I did it. Not much of an achievement, but I'm still walking much faster than I did 3 years ago. Just hoping not to go backwards too much on the exercise front.

Iamblossom · 18/10/2026 12:54

Spin class.
Half a mile swim

Iamblossom · 19/10/2026 13:14

55 min trail walk with weighted vest and ankle weights

BezMills · 19/10/2026 16:32

Still on the DBS stage for my wee cooncil gym job, I advanced one further stage last Monday. Each one is taking about a week, so hopefully this one is almost done.

Gym has been patchy. I took the last but one Friday off and did my usual (deadlift, bench and sled push), then Combat on Tuesday. The Thursday class last week was cancelled (and I'm not yet cleared to cover the class) and I didn't get to the gym until yesterday. Much to my surprise I still managed a little wee bit more than the previous one. Honestly I'm happy to get in the gym roughly once a week at the moment. I'd love to be training 4 days + the 2 classes, but I struggle for time.

Alittlefrustrated · 19/10/2026 17:00

Somewhere between 40 - 50 x25m swim
160.

Comtesse · 19/10/2026 21:50

15 min dance video yesterday then 15 min bedtime yoga, plus a bit of cycling too.

Blimey @WearyAuldWumman you have been in the wars - so sorry to hear that!
