I’m starting couch to 5k tonight, anyone else?

It’s light as I’m leaving work so that’s it, the evenings are drawing out and by the time the clocks go back I want to make it to 5k.

ultimate goal is to be running a minimum of 5k by the time I go on holiday in the summer, so that I can run when I’m there.

@AlphabetBird you sound like where I am. Trying to get back into running but keep getting injured. My head says I can run and my body is less willing.

I am liking the pace of c25k. Repeating runs makes sense when life gets in the way.

I did w7r3 today. I didn't feel too bad but I need a better playlist for w8. I find myself slowing down when I zone out.

HollywentLightly · 25/02/2026 20:56

I wouldn't usually do two nights in a row, but I'm going away tomorrow and won't be able to run again til Sunday evening so I did w4d3 this evening. I wasn't sure if manage the second 5 min block but luckily I took the route that it was downhill! B

MyAgileHedgehog · 02/03/2026 08:14

How are you all doing. Can I thank you all for the inspiration and motivation. I felt if I didn't get out I was letting you all down. You are all complicit in getting me to the end of week 8. Today was not pretty... The wind felt in my face every which way I was running.

I am now having to look for my next running schedule.... Any suggestions would be welcome.

HollywentLightly · 02/03/2026 15:39

Well done on getting to week 8! I was out in the bad weather last night too, just to get another one in. I reran the same as Wednesday night as I couldn't face 5/6/5 but I don't know why I thought 3/5/5/3 was any better!

TomCat24 · 02/03/2026 20:39

I completed it tonight!!!

Keep going everyone!

MyAgileHedgehog · 02/03/2026 21:00

Good going! What have you got planned for your next goal?

MyAgileHedgehog · 02/03/2026 21:02

@HollywentLightly I am finding that they are really well graded. If you have done one you are ready for the next one. They can be hard but you are ready.

Yourinmyspot · 02/03/2026 21:09

Fantastic OP. I did my first couch to 5k run 12 years ago and I’ve been running ever since, never looked back. I’ve never been fast and never will be but I enjoy it. I went out with the running club I belong to tonight. I hope you enjoyed it, the couch to 5k is brilliant it really works.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 03/03/2026 07:49

Well done everyone!

I did a half marathon last week, and am now in the tapering 2 weeks before my big fundraising half marathon.

3 years ago, I never dreamt C25K would get me here!

MyAgileHedgehog · 04/03/2026 08:06

I did a 30 minute run! Not quite 5k but the route is trail and not flat. I will put more effort into the way out next time.

EdinaTheConfessor · 04/03/2026 17:52

I did w8r3 yesterday but didn’t finish, I think I was about 7 mins short of 28 mins as had a pain in my side. Really odd, not a stitch, it felt like a period pain in my side and down my hip. Stopped a few mins free I stopped running.

I’m going to try again tomorrow and hope it was a one off. Then move on to week 9 at the weekend 😬

HollywentLightly · 06/03/2026 19:54

@MyAgileHedgehog , I've done c25k so many times I know I get there eventually 😂but I conquered the 5/6/5 this evening and actually enjoyed it! Well done on getting to 30m yourself. I hope today was less twingy if you went out @EdinaTheConfessor .

I've signed up for a 10k at the end of May so hopefully I'll be at least able to run/walk towards the end. My aim is to be able to get to 7k by then and I'll wing the end. I know from when I used to run a good bit that 7k is my sweet spot as a manageable couple of times a week distance and I'd be delighted to be back there.

EdinaTheConfessor · 06/03/2026 21:04

Thanks @HollywentLightlyit was fine and actually beat my 28min record - 4.5km.

Tomorrow is the big w9r1 😬 wish me luck.

MyAgileHedgehog · 06/03/2026 22:26

Good luck @EdinaTheConfessor . I had to take a second day off which may have been swung by it pouring with rain this morning.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 07/03/2026 07:35

Just done my Sat morning run - 5k in 32 mins with 90m of hill, which is the fastest I've done that particular run.

3 more 5k runs, then it's my half marathon!

Keep going, everyone!

EdinaTheConfessor · 07/03/2026 10:22

My first 30 min run done today. My watch is telling me I did 4.9km. I did feel like I was flying to be fair.
5k here I come!

MyAgileHedgehog · 07/03/2026 11:33

I did my second 30 minute run... Just short of 5k. I felt every step of the way. Not fun but I finished it. I wonder if I have a bug coming on because I felt like I was putting the effort in but had the style of a cart horse. My heart rate was higher than usual as well.

MyAgileHedgehog · 09/03/2026 08:15

I finished it this morning...... I can safely say I am not a fast runner but it gets me out the door and has been amazing for my mental health. My physical fitness and stamina have improved and I am a runner. 😁

HollywentLightly · 09/03/2026 17:53

Well done @MyAgileHedgehog !

I had my first 8 minutes run today. The 5 mins after it felt like months. At least I'd done the uphill bit early so it was downhill and flat when it started feeling really hard. 8/5/8 seems daunting for later in the week 😬

MyAgileHedgehog · 09/03/2026 18:33

I found the 8/5/8 run difficult. I settle into a pace for the longer runs.

EdinaTheConfessor · 11/03/2026 17:27

I did it, w9r3 done.

Next step I guess is doing the 5k within the 30 mins. I only managed 4.8 today.

I’ve signed up for park run, there are a couple of local 5k ones near me. My most local one is quite challenging apparently as it’s a bit hilly, but the one next town over is a nice flat circular around a mere. Going to give myself a couple of weeks to build up some speed then give it a bash.

HollywentLightly · 11/03/2026 19:51

Well done @EdinaTheConfessor ! I just did my 2x8mins and actually felt better than expected! I ran while dd was at training so the route was very flat (along the seafront) which definitely helped. Feeling a bit more optimistic about the 10s next.

MyAgileHedgehog · 12/03/2026 08:49

@EdinaTheConfessor well done. I didn't do the 5k in 30 minutes either. I planed on consolidating - so going out for 30 minutes every 2nd day..... Except I have come down with a hideous cold.

@HollywentLightly great going. I found that the programme is really well graduated. So by the time you get to the next run you are ready for it. There were times I felt like I had to put a lot of effort in but it was doable. It wasn't pretty and my neighbours saw a red faced woman shuffling along giving herself a stern talking to.

Every step, km and run counts.

Tomorrow, I'm running the Bath Half.

2 years and 10 months ago, I couldn't run for 1 min. C25K started all this!!
