I’m starting couch to 5k tonight, anyone else?

It’s light as I’m leaving work so that’s it, the evenings are drawing out and by the time the clocks go back I want to make it to 5k.

ultimate goal is to be running a minimum of 5k by the time I go on holiday in the summer, so that I can run when I’m there.

Well done @EdinaTheConfessor ! 20 mins is amazing! I'm still here although a really busy week at work so I did w3d2 over the weekend and planning to go out tomorrow night for my next one. I'll report back

Not sure if anyone is still watching this thread or cares 😂 but I need to tell someone, I did it, w5r3. The big 20 mins! And I did it. I really surprised myself. I feel done in now but never in a million years thought I would be here.

To anyone just starting or thinking of starting, the program does work, just stick to it and trust in it.

I’m stupidly proud of myself and do really believe the 5k is achievable and to think only 6 weeks ago I could barely run for a minute!

Well done 👏🏻

I’m still here and in week 7 - 25 mins. I am with you - this programme definitely works. Keep going everyone!

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 12/02/2026 06:28

That's fab @EdinaTheConfessor well done!

The week 5 is the biggest jump. If you can tough out w5r3, you can absolutely do the 5k

SandwichMakerHater · 12/02/2026 06:59

This thread is really inspirational.
One question: is this programme your main exercise? I follow a Caroline Girvan weights programme, 5 sessions a week, but would like to see if I could do this too. I am pretty tired though, so not sure if adding running 3 or 4 times a week would be too much!

I do Pilates (just follow a YouTube class) the days I’m not running. I think I could definitely do it on my run days too, especially when I do an early morning run, but choose to alternate.

I have woken up this morning feeling like my whole body is done in though! Not achy, just tired.

A bit of a lurker here. You have all been really inspiring. I used to run but I kept picking up injuries and would get disheartened when I went back and couldn't do as much as I used to be able to. Then excuses and life got in the way. Before seeing this thread in January it had been 4 years since my last run.... Except for the bus.

That is really reassuring.... I just did W5R3. I was really dreading it in case I got injured again. I am so proud of myself.... And appears my family are too. I have come home to a new running / fitness watch and top.

Amazing, well done!

Although I’m lucky enough not have gotten injured, I do think the sheer amount of motivation and willpower it takes to get up and do each of the runs (for me at least) should not be underestimated.

Hello @MyAgileHedgehog sounds like you're powering through the weeks!

Weather is absolutely awful here, torrential rain this evening but I went out anyway. My app which had been playing nicely decided to mutiny so I just did my usual route running as long as I could, walking a bit and running again. I figured something was better than nothing.

MyAgileHedgehog · 18/02/2026 08:40

Just back from W6R3.... I just ran 3.44km in 25 minutes. Not super fast but I did it. I am so proud of myself.

I am a little concerned that my watch knows I run leaning to the right. Just how does it measure that?

MyAgileHedgehog · 18/02/2026 08:41

And I am still uninjured....

I hope you are all still skipping along too. Don't let the grim weather put you off. We can do this....

It will have gyroscope inside, to tell if you are vertical or horizontal, so will be able to tell if your vertical axis is slightly off. Bit like an electronic spirit level.

Well done on your run!

MyAgileHedgehog · 18/02/2026 08:50

Thanks... I was surprised to see that recorded. I know that I do lean over. Which I suspect contributes to my injury tally. I will now have a school teacher voice mentally shouting "run up straight woman!" And I plod along.

Amazing, well done. I have also done w6r3 today!

I had to stop at 24 mins though as mis-timed my route and had to stop to cross a busy road. Will plan my route better next time.

I did 3.7km though which I was surprised at.

MyAgileHedgehog · 18/02/2026 19:10

You must have been flying.

TomCat24 · 19/02/2026 12:49

Week 8 run 1 done this morning. Im now able to just keep running until I reach 5k which took me 37 minutes this morning. I do count the initial 5 minute warm up though. My plan is once I have completed the programme, I won’t start ‘the clock’ till after the 5 minute warm up walk, then I can actually build up to running the full 5k.
Heavy legs and arms after a day clearing the garden yesterday and some of the inclines were tough going. But I managed it!! Also managed to end my run at the local cafe, what a coincidence!!! 😂 Enjoyed my 5 minute walk back home with a large latte and an almond croissant! 🥐

Sortmylife · 19/02/2026 14:15

I’ve finally started today. Had the app downloaded for weeks but decided to get out there. Really enjoyed it, need to keep going now.

MyAgileHedgehog · 19/02/2026 15:23

Well done @Sortmylife . The hardest step is the one to get out the door.

Thank you! I have been putting it off, worry about what I would look like, could I do it and so on. Glad I done it, looking forward to Saturday!

Wowarentyoutall · 19/02/2026 16:30

I had this all planned that i was starting in Feb so hopefully the weather would have improved, then fell in January and broke my pelvis, dislocated my hip and broke my hip in 3 places, recovery time is up to 12 weeks ( ended up with total hip replacement) so now my plans are on hold until at least May 👎

HollywentLightly · 19/02/2026 19:19

Between weather and work I've only got out again, w3r3. The second 3mins was hard and my next is 4 so I might end up repeating!

HollywentLightly · 22/02/2026 23:04

I did w4r1 and it was less painful than feared.

EdinaTheConfessor · 23/02/2026 13:35

Just done w7r2. 4k exactly in 25 mins. There is a fair amount of down hill on my route though to be fair 🤣

MessyNDepressy · 24/02/2026 18:46

I started couch to 5k a few weeks ago, just did w3r1 today. I was worried about running for 3 minutes straight but strangely it felt a bit easier than w2r3. My next run will be Thursday. Have never been a runner in my life, really hoping I can stick to it.

AlphabetBird · 24/02/2026 18:53

Week 7 run 1 ticked off yesterday!

I did the great north run and a 10K last year, but had a bad achilles tendon and more or less did not run at all from September to December. I'm doing this to rebuild fitness slowly and sustainably. I was so shocked at how hard I found the early weeks - my body had completely forgotten how to run.

I'm never, ever going to be a fast runner, but this is helping a lot to make me a consistent one, and hopefully, and uninjured one. I'm going to be very strict to only add 10% a week until I'm back up to long distances - I think this is what caused me problems last year.

HollywentLightly · 24/02/2026 20:39

I agree about the consistency of the programme, @AlphabetBird , it really helps me to be told what to do even if I'll never be fast either.

W4r2 today and despite what I expected heading out, I survived both 5 min runs!
