Sweaty knickers

I am sat here a bit upset. I have started back at the gym as I really want to get fit and healthy. During my workout I worked up a sweat which is great but it was the sweat in my groin area that has caused the upset. My knickers were soaked as were my leggings. Luckily they are black so no one could see but I feel really embarrassed.
Are there any knickers I can wear that will absorb the sweat? I’d love to wear different colours of leggings but I’m too worried.

my pants are often sweaty at the end of a long run. I don’t think it’s usually noticeable through my leggings or shorts and if it is i don’t care. It’s only sweat and I’ve been working out. I often have under boob sweat too!! 😂

if you look around at everyone at the gym anyone putting some effort in will be sweaty in all sorts of places too. They won’t be looking at you in judgement, as they’ll be too busy worrying about their own sweat patches 😂. Try not to stress and just be pleased you worked hard enough to work up a sweat.

Galadali · 18/01/2026 13:49

This is totally normal surely?! I'm not generally sweaty, but when I'm at the gym or running then yes, I get a very sweaty bum. Everyone does!

somanychristmaslights · 18/01/2026 13:49

Wear 100% cotton underwear. I get sweaty in other materials.

MyAgileHedgehog · 18/01/2026 13:51

Everyone else has a sweaty bum... They don't care about yours.

Pratchettfangirl · 18/01/2026 13:53

You might find wearing period pants gives you a bit more confidence as they are very absorbent.

jasflowers · 18/01/2026 13:58

Don't wear knickers under your gym wear, especially if you are using an exercise bike.

Lets everything breath!

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 18/01/2026 14:10

There seems to be a suspiciously high number of posts talking about sweat lately.....

Mumsntfan1 · 18/01/2026 14:32

What's the problem? Surely you shower and put on clean knickers after your work out. There is a reason most people wear black sports tights!

ThatFairy · 18/01/2026 14:35

I had a pair of Nike workout shorts that has a knicker built into it

I do, I’m talking about during the workout.

People sweat when they exercise

LaMadrilena · 18/01/2026 14:48

Totally normal. How obvious it is depends on the material of your leggings/shorts, but I don't think anyone will really think twice if they do notice. I wouldn't. I do circuit training and there's often a sweaty bum-print on the bench, despite a towel! I just wipe it off, put my towel down and keep going!

trustedadult · 18/01/2026 14:48

I don't wear knickers

Jk987 · 18/01/2026 14:49

Long tops so your bum doesn’t show

The only way to avoid your knickers getting sweaty while you work out is not to wear them!

I wear period pants to the gym and it has completely solved this problem. I bought a specific pair just for this and I make sure I change and wash them fairly quickly afterwards but IMO it 100% works for peace of mind. I hated getting up off the exercise benches and leaving a sweaty crotch mark (and I always train with a partner so can see clearly that it doesn’t happen to everyone to the same extent and was so embarrassed). Good luck and try not to let it put you off!

BarnacleBeasley · 21/01/2026 13:09

I don't bother with them, but you could try runderwear.

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/01/2026 13:13

Wear your sweaty knickers and tights as a medal - they show you've been working out really well.

Stick to wearing black if you must as its less visible - but surely all the people having a good workout at the gym are sweaty? I do hot yoga and we sweat buckets & often come out of class properly dripping & sweaty all over - its the sign of a very successful session.

Wet crotch in your jeans on the street - BAD.
Wet crotch after a good workout - RESPECT!! that's what you are aiming for - be proud not ashamed.

minipie · 21/01/2026 13:17

I wear cotton pants under leggings and yep they get sweaty. What’s the problem? They are going to be changed straight after and I don’t really notice it whilst exercising as I’m focused on the exercise. And yeah I stick religiously to black 😆

I suppose you could wear period pants but they’re expensive just for gym wear and I suspect I would sweat much more in them than in normal underwear.

gerispringer · 21/01/2026 13:17

Step One bamboo pants are really thick, absorbent and comfy.

Brefugee · 21/01/2026 13:20

Well done for starting back OP.

Your question answered itself. This is one of the reasons so many people wear black. Take a deep breath, and carry on. Nobody is going to notice, and if they do they aren't going to say anything (so you don't need to care) and if they do say something, tell the gym they are being inappropriate and what are they going to do about it.

But don't be embarassed about sweating at the gym. That is what gyms are for.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 21/01/2026 13:21

Everyone has sweaty knickers in there. Look around you, are they all cringing with embarrassment? No, they are not.

Brefugee · 21/01/2026 13:22

at my gym there are signs up everywhere reminding people to put towels on the bench, and also to use the spray to clean them afterwards. I am not in UK, but if this is not normal there, I'm glad i'm not, tbh.

I applaud you for your nation’s clearly superior hygiene practices. But to clarify, of course we wipe down equipment in the UK after use. And in my experience, usually without having to be told.

What I meant is it’s embarrassing (for me anyway) when you stand up and there is a noticeable sweat mark when there is someone else standing right there.

And while I applaud all the women on here who are happy with their sweaty crotches, I think it’s ok that some of us are naturally less comfortable in a gym environment and/or have a lower embarrassment threshold than others, and to offer solutions based on that. I agree that embracing your sweaty self gets easier with time though.

Brefugee · 22/01/2026 12:47

no need to be so chippy - the way people go on about it you'd think they never put down a towel. As you either don't or you need to double it up if you sweat through it.

I have never left sweaty marks where i sit and I've been using gyms for decades.

as for the rest: meh
