Fancy gym membership - can you bargain the price?

I would like to join a gym, a fancy one (a couple of friends go there). I can just about afford it but if i can go with friends and socialise at the same time, i will go more often and it will be money well spent.

it is an independent gym but fancy like David Lloyds (where i could get a NHS discount)

ive already tried to negotiate with the indy gym but they are not flexible (offer thru friend is 1/2 joining fee and 1/2 price 1st month - which is effectively as if you were paying the full price for a month (but no joining fee).
ive asked for the 1/2 price joining fee to be waived but they are not moving.

has anyone negotiated anything in a gym? It is a lot of money which i will spend if i have to but id like to try first if anything can be done…. Because it is still a lot of money…

thanks in advance

I think if you are going to donit then now is not the time. Everyone joins straight after Christmas.

It sounds like they’ve already said no?

I’ve negotiated corporate discounts with Indy gyms before - it might be worth getting someone with an official-ish HR/benefits title at your workplace to send an email (though I’m not sure how this works for the NHS!) if you’re willing to wait a few months and play the long game. Or just sign up to a mailing list and wait for better offers - but I think you’ve probably exhausted the direct negotiating route.
