Ongoing ankle pain. What next?

DD sprained her ankle over the summer. Couldn’t weight bear so we went to Minor Injuries where it was x-rayed and she was told there was no sign of a break so it would just be ligament damage and to rest it.
She did rest it for a few weeks before going back to football & running and it’s just not right. She’s rested it again, went back to training last week and it’s still not right.
Where do we go next? I can’t see the GP being much help. Do we go to the physio? Do we go straight to having an MRI? We want to get it resolved as soon as possible. Grandparents have offered to pay for an MRI but I’m not sure they have realised how expensive they are or that that is the next step.
I could ask her football coach for advice but I think DD is reluctant to admit that she’s worried that this will continue to recur. By chance, the club doesn’t have a physio at the moment so injuries aren’t being managed as proactively as usual.

Physio for strengthening work

See a physio privately if you can afford it. They may be able to refer for a scan if they think that’s needed. Which is less £ than I thought - I believe about £300.
