HELP! I look like I've peed myself after running

So, this is embarrassing. I'm in my mid-40s and have been running for years but recently I've started sweating - profusely - in the crotch department. I realised today that it looks like i've peed myself. I was wearing dark burgundy coloured Sweaty Betty running leggings. What should I be wearing? How can I stop this?
I'm in a small village and people will definitely talk😂

I get you! I have started wearing period pants from primark just for running. They are better.

Kerrylass · 02/10/2025 17:01

Gosh the same thing happened me at a packed gym class!

You gotta ditch the coloured leggings im afraid - black is only colour that wont show up the sweat.

SchoolNightWine · 02/10/2025 17:01

This was one of my first peri menopause signs! Black Lycra leggings needed.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 02/10/2025 17:03

I started wearing a skort.

Nike did some with a short skirt with the knee length leggings underneath. They were brilliant for me when I started to get that problem. I still sweat but no-one could see it because the skirt bit covered that whole area.

PrayForMyBum · 02/10/2025 17:09

Extremely glad I'm not alone, although @SchoolNightWine that's a wonderful thought. And what a lovely symptom to add to the anxiety, wine intolerance, insomnia, period flu and face-sag.
Black leggings it is, then.
And thanks, @ErlingHaalandsManBun , but I need full length as I get hives from all the nature (another peri symptom). Maybe shorts over leggings? Although that might make me sweat even more...

Actually, I had some Sweaty Betty black running leggings but they were really thin and lightweight (so much so you could see my pants through them) so I suspect they wouldn't do. Any tips on brands that are good for sweat-wicking/absorption?

Period knickers game changer

clipboardz · 02/10/2025 17:19

wear black

SimpleSingleLife · 02/10/2025 17:22

busy patterns.

everymeeveryyou · 02/10/2025 17:34

I wear black Under Armour ones. Good support and whilst lightweight I have checked in all lights and you can’t see through them.

MsMartini · 05/10/2025 08:05

SB Powers won't show anything IME. They are much thicker than eg the zero gravity running style ones. One of those small mottled designs helps with the the thinner ones too. If you feel self conscious you could wear those really super thin short running shorts on top of leggings?

Northerndoglover · 05/10/2025 08:33

Same here! Any distance ends with me looking like a) I’ve had an accident and b) I’ve been running in Singapore.

Black SB powers are the way to go to avoid marks imo but I simply cannot run in leggings unless it’s minus temps outside so black shorts it is.

Ive just remembered SB did do a pair of navy cropped powers with loose shorts built in. They weren’t that hot. I sold mine on vinted a while ago (don’t ask why, something I regret now), but I imagine they are still pairs floating around.

Imbrocator · 05/10/2025 09:48

Same. Black leggings with shorts, or heavily patterned leggings are the way to go on a hot day. I don’t know how all these other women seem to manage a long sweaty run on a hot day and come out looking dry as a bone!

NutButterOnToast · 05/10/2025 09:54

Yeah black is the only colour which won't show it.

I can't wear those 2 in 1 style with loose shorts over the top as they always bunch up like a nappy. A skort is a much better idea

FeelinTwentySixPointTwo · 05/10/2025 10:04

Stop it with the leggings (unless plain black) and get some proper running shorts with the double layer (aka twin shorts). Ronhill are best as the bottom layer doesn't ride up like some cheaper ones do.

Power leggings hide sweat but are far too hot to run in.

You want some of these ideally:

Gymbunny2025 · 05/10/2025 12:44

I could never wear coloured leggings (even in my 20s) due to the delightful sweat patches!

Nearly50omg · 05/10/2025 12:51

Get some skins compression leggings as they wick away the sweat and also help with the build up of lactic acid as well as circulation and everything else - search online and make sure they are proper Skins brand name but you will find them on sale as cheap as £10 - usually they are £100+ but they are worth it!!

PrayForMyBum · 09/10/2025 19:44

Thanks all, for the suggestions! I can’t wear shorts, unfortunately, because I’m in the countryside and use footpaths and trails to run, but my skin comes out in hives in contact with any sort of foliage! Another peri symptom to contend with. SB black leggings it shall be…
