Started this again today (have completed it a few times over the years!). Anyone else beginning it so we can cheer each other on?

Yay! Well done everyone!

Postpossum · 15/11/2025 14:47

Fallen off the wagon already... W1R2 still hasn't happened although that's mostly because I had an exercise class on Tuesday that wiped me out 😅 My Garmin said I'm "overreaching". Nice. Hoping to get a run in over the weekend though. Thought about it last night but put myself off so I need to get past that now

Riverz · 18/11/2025 18:36

I am really struggling with week 5.

run 1 I did it 6 times before it clicked and then run 2 is defeating me I am just not fit enough to fully complete it, or I’m getting in my own head and struggling. I did it once all the way through but the next time I did it, I failed and I’ve failed every time since!

about 6 mins in I start to struggle and get very hot and high HR, so I slow down but I think I lose my confidence?

I am acutely aware I’ve done no cardio for 45 years so this is not an easy fix!

Greyandproud · 01/12/2025 08:52

How are you all getting along?
I’m looking at the rain and putting my run on hold. Have recently been managing to get out twice a week and am currently on week 7. 25mins is still a struggle and not getting any easier, or faster. I did approx 3km the last time I did 25mins so 5k is looking like an unlikely outcome. A shame, especially as DH announced his intention to do a Parkrun in the spring and I was nursing a fantasy that I might sail round 5k with him lagging behind.
In amongst all my miserable experiences, I had one glorious moment last week - I made my way across beautiful countryside, the sun was shining and the wrens were scuttling around the path. I took a photo to celebrate the time I enjoyed myself!
Dianne Lewis says I can call myself a runner now but I think it’s more realistic to say that I’m a very slow, fair weather runner.

Riverz · 01/12/2025 22:24

Still stuck on week 5 and now have a ligament injury to my foot! I’m also nowhere near a 5k

BetterOffNow · 02/12/2025 09:15

Ugh, haven't been out for two weeks! Life and weather have been getting in the way... I'm really missing it and hoping to get out on Friday all being well!

Don't worry about being slow on parkrun though, there's a tail walker who is behind everyone and makes sure no-one is last!

FunMum2019 · 02/12/2025 17:29

Urgh, I’ve missed a couple of weeks and am now sick. Can’t wait to get back to it!

I did it! Managed to reach week 9, 30 mins by Christmas.
I did it very slowly - only 3.5 km, so 5k a target that I didn’t reach.
i slothed home today with a big grin on my face - mainly feeling pleased with myself but also happy that I won’t be doing another run this week. I don’t enjoy running. It’s been a slog to get to this stage. However, I loved getting out and seeing wildlife in the park. I hope i am a bit fitter. I plan to continue because I can’t bear the thought of going through the first few weeks again.
well done to anyone else still at it.

Hello, may I join please?!
I completed this a few years ago and continued to go on to running between 5 and 10k three times per week and loved it! But then developed a knee injury and stopped.

I need to lose weight (piled 2 stone on), my cholesterol is through the roof, its going higher and higher with each blood test. Something needs to change! And that change is me getting back to runnin, im going to start c25k on Tuesday from the beginning. DS returns to school on Tuesday.

I also need to stop snacking as well, its a bad habit of mine!

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 06/01/2026 15:28

Week 1 run 1 done this morning. Crazy I know due to the ice, but it was actually nice! And its an easy one so thought may as well get it done and out the way!

FunMum2019 · 06/01/2026 18:59

I’m back to it!!! After about 4 consecutive illnesses, I’ve had to go back to week 3, but I’m on it! Keep going everyone :)

I also got sick alongside my foot injury so i am weeks and weeks out of it now. I did try the cross trainer a few times but I got a chest infection. My foot injury is better now

Im going to try week 4 run 1 and see how it goes…

BetterOffNow · 07/01/2026 09:23

Well done @FunMum2019 - keep going!
I managed to finish week 7 on Boxing Day, how's that for commitment?!😄
Only been out once since as it was so slippery underfoot that I had to walk in places... hoping to get back out there this week as the snow seems to have gone round here now.

Now it's after Christmas, I'm gonna have a go.

Riverz · 13/01/2026 10:08

OMG so first day back in 4 weeks after a tendon injury then a chest infection (had antibiotics and steroids)

it was terrible! I am back at week 3 and I’ve lost so much fitness 😭 I’m really gutted

BetterOffNow · 13/01/2026 10:19

I've only been out once this year + it was so slippery I thought I'd wait for it to thaw!
Planning a run for tomorrow afternoon, fingers crossed for the weather...

I think the point is YOU ACTUALLY DID IT! Congratulations 🎉

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 13/01/2026 13:04

I'm only onto week 2, completed run 2 this morning. Pleased with myself though as ive gone out in the ice, snow and rain whereas I would usually think "oh no, weather is rubbish I'll do it another day". I just need to keep up the momentum!

Riverz · 13/01/2026 18:33

Yeah I did do it so need a medal 😂
today was worse in a different way, developed a terrible stomach ache as I got into the treadmill so spent the whole time anxious I was going to have a Paula Ratcliff which drove my heart rate right up!
I did manage to finish the run (week 3) but not ready to move up yet

Riverz · 16/01/2026 15:15

I’ve done 3 this week on week 3. The last one was less awful but I am not moving up yet to week 4.

beguilingeyes · 16/01/2026 15:23

I'm doing it again (again) and am back at week one after Christmas and sickness got in the way. W2R1 tomorrow.

BetterOffNow · 16/01/2026 17:31

Haven't run for 2 weeks so I wasn't expecting much. I repeated wk 7 run 3 and ran further in 25 mins than I'd done before! Shattered now though 😴

Riverz · 17/01/2026 21:08

Attempt 4 at week 3. I’m fuming with how unfit I am. Stuck at week 3 for longer I think. I can’t even run for 3 mins and I was nearly running for 8!
