Exercise - single mum

Mumofone1xx · 10/09/2025 22:30

Hi all, im a single mum to my 8 year old daughter and I have her all the time. I work full time at an office job so I get very little exercise. I have been at the job a year now and was studying before hand and can really feel how my body feels more stiff. I would like to loose weight and feel better in my body (less stiff, more fit!) but find most YouTube videos so booorrrinnggg and find it really hard to motivate myself to do them! Im tired by the evenings and was thinking maybe if I find something I enjoy more it might help me feel more motivated. Can't really do anything thats paid for. Does anyone have any suggestions on workouts / exercise they enjoy? That help with weightloss and fitness. Or how to enjoy/feel motivated to exercise?
Thank you 😊

I like Zuzka Light https://www.youtube.com/user/ZuzkaLight . I've been doing her stuff since the time of BodyRock TV. Sometimes, I add a bit of Tara Stiles for yoga https://www.youtube.com/@Tara.Stiles/videos and some of Maria Khoreva's workouts https://www.youtube.com/@MariaKhoreva/videos .

AthleanX also has a good video section. I prefer the ones for men. https://learn.athleanx.com/video-gallery . This is for women https://learn.athleanx.com/best-workout-program-videos/best-workouts-for-women

Recently, I bought a subscription to B the Method, and I have to say for the price of two coffees a month, the quality of the content is totally worth it.

Those ticks the boxes about less stiff, more fit, and they have given me a body I like, that feels and looks younger.

Now for your other goal, what will make you lose weight is what you put in your mouth or I should say, what you don't put in your mouth. This is a lot easier than working out.

I exercise in the morning, waking up when everyone is still asleep, and my stamina is higher when I have an empty stomach. Motivation also comes from habit.

Can you run or do any exercise in your lunch hour? That's what a lot of us do in my office.

I do strength training three times a week in my lunch hour. It’s good because you don’t get too sweaty - I usually don’t even have to redo my makeup - and it gives you great results quite quickly. I do Caroline’s circuits but there are tons of free workouts online.

I do my workouts with dumbbells in my sitting room when I’m working from home, but they would be easy to do in a gym too.

It’s really hard - I’ve struggled over the years as a single parent to find time and inclination - I also hate YouTube videos.
can you do something with your daughter like go out for a light run?
I have a dumbbell at home and use it most days just to do arm exercises mainly, and then I do a plank for around 1 min, some squats and some yoga/pilates moves - Takes around 10-15 mins and that seems to be enough.
