I want to sign up for an Ultra Challenge in 2026. I’ve just completed a Macmillan Mighty Hike marathon, which I really enjoyed, and I want to challenge myself next year - without the fundraising pressure. I’m looking at walking/hiking a 50k. The Bath one has caught my eye but I’d be grateful for recommendations.

Pennine Way?
Coast to Coast?
London loop?
Or do a stage of the Camino.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks is an obvious choice - gorgeous scenery and the sort of distance you're after.

Or, as the pp said, what about doing a short stage of one of the big long walks - eg Pennine Way, Coast to Coast, south West coast path or (my favourite) the West Highland Way?

Serpent trail near Petersfield is lovely.

Serpent trail near Petersfield is lovely.

I did the Serpent Trail 50k last weekend and it’s lovely. Beautiful route and a super long cut off so it’s a good one to walk. Race to the Stones is another lovely event with a long cut off, but it’s this weekend so you’ve got a year to wait for the next one!

Look at Race to the Stones. The 2025 one was last weekend and I know someone who did the 100k in a day version, but there is a 50k for walking as well I believe.

Bristol to bath in September has a trail marathon with a hiking wave starting slightly after the runners.

im doing the 25k run version of it.
