Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Hello all,
hope all your running adventures are going well.
I haven't run since Thursday last week, life just got in the way. I meant to go out Sunday but was so tired I decided to listen to my body for a change. I'm going out with run club tonight and preparing for it to be very hot! I have another 10k race on Thursday evening, not a chance I'm going to get close to the 55 mins I managed the other week but would be happy with under an hour.

Stripeymouse · 12/08/2025 10:11

Did an Easy 5km this morning despite not wanting to!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 12/08/2025 10:29

Hi all. I’m back from the festival, I had a wonderful time reliving my youth but dancing until 4am has kind of broken me. I’m just so tired! I did get a tiny 1.5 mile run in on Friday morning when there which was fun and I got a lot of funny looks from people I ran past!

its meant to be running club tonight. I’ll see how I feel later if I go I’ll probably go with a slower place group to ease myself back in!

well done everyone on your running over the weekend.

RunningInto · 12/08/2025 10:51

Had a Slow 6.30am beach run before the heat builds nice bit of sea breeze but I’m still tired following the migraine wipe out. Day sat at desk now trying to focus on work. I’m really not a lover of hot weather and will be glad when it passes. Well done anyone who gets out this week it’s definitely gonna be a warm one.

tinks3110 · 15/08/2025 09:02

Morning all, hope you're all well and managing to still get out running in this heat. I am trying to think that the warm weather training will stand me in good stead for some winter PB's!
I ran another 10k race last night, it was very hot and I didn't enjoy the route but I managed to finish in 56.18. Only a minute over my PB from the other week and I didn't have a pacer with me this time. Think I've proved to myself that it wasn't a fluke! No races now for me until 21st Sept so just going to enjoy getting out and about.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 15/08/2025 14:16

Well done @tinks3110 that’s a great time!!

I’ve been a bit slack with running this week. Came back from boom town with a cold and cough and have only got in one steady 5k. I’m going to try and go to track tonight and then I might run to park run tomorrow which is actually 10 miles the way I would go and then do park run. We shall see as I’d have to leave the house before 7.30 and I’m not sure how up for that I am! 😂. Also I’ll only do it if dd1 is going so she can give me a lift home!

RunningInto · 15/08/2025 20:56

Early run this morning on low tide beach and it was a misty 14c was lovely to feel cooler but I actually got chilled as swam afterwards and couldn’t warm up. My kids thought I looked hilarious at home wearing a woolly hat and fleece as it was 20c + outside. Took me a couple of hours but was soon back in T-shirt & shorts again.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/08/2025 22:01

Hi everyone - well done @tinks3110!

Good luck tomorrow @Whataninterestinglookingpotato with your run to parkrun and - is it 10 miles altogether or a HM with the addition of parkrun?

@RunningInto glad you warmed up!

Well done for getting out in the heat @Stripeymouse .

I was supposed to run with a friend on Tuesday evening, but it was far too hot for us so we sacked off and went for a walk and dinner instead. We made up for it by running at 7.30 on Wednesday morning instead. I was out even earlier today to get 5 miles in before work. I've also been doing the strength training.

No parkrun for me tomorrow because I'm volunteering at my home run and then going for a lido swim.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 16/08/2025 10:33

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree it would have been a half marathon had I done it. As it was I just couldn’t organise myself to get out of the house early enough so I decided to just do a 10 mile loop from home along country lanes.

im Not really feeling 100% and really struggled to pick up my pace but dragged myself around. Even leaving at 8.30 it was bloody hot!

Well done to everyone for getting out in the heat.

RunningInto · 16/08/2025 12:58

Well done @Whataninterestinglookingpotato that’s quite an achievement 10m in 20c+ i was tired just walking the dog this morning. Hope you can smuggly chill out now having ticked it off.

tinks3110 · 16/08/2025 13:54

Well done @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

I pootled for a slow 2.25 miles with the couch to 5k club this morning. I’ve got a horrible insect bite on the back of my leg from the race by the canal on Thursday and am feeling a bit sorry for myself 😂

lightanddreamy · 16/08/2025 19:40

Had my first fall while running today. I can’t believe it. Nothing I won’t recover quickly from - I’ve just bruised and grazed my knees and there’s a deep gash on my forearm - but the timing is rotten, as I was meant to be doing one of my last long runs before the Great North Run. I’m not sure what training will look like this week and I’m gutted as I’ve had such a consistent month of gym classes and runs.

Oh no , hope not too painful! I stacked it and cut my knee open at the north downs run, I was more embarrassed than anything else because lots of people rallied to help me (it actually didn't hurt that much)
Don't worry too much if you've done all your training, you won't make it break it in the last week, hopefully you can recover and recharge for the race 🙏

I did Durlstone parkrun last week, which was my slowest time for a parkrun that wasn't a sociable one, but anazing to do. Back to my normal parkrun this morning. It should have felt easier but it didn't really, although much more pleasant temperature to run. And I had a first - that my shoe lace came undone on the second lap....which was annoying as I was catching up the second lady! (She finished 4 seconds ahead)

Was hoping to do a longish run with friends tomorrow but no one is around...so I'll have to have words with myself to get on with it by myself!

Stripeymouse · 16/08/2025 22:41

@lightanddreamy sorry to hear you fell. Hope it heels up quickly.

I did PR this am. 1 minute slower than last week. There are so many strong runners at PR. It’s very humbling to get beaten by people in their 70s. Well done to them, it’s amazing. I can only hope to be anywhere near their level of fitness at that age.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/08/2025 08:25

Hope that you’re ok after your fall @lightanddreamy

well done on your parkrun @Fizbosshoes I’d like to get out and do a bit more park run tourism. It’s just organising myself to get out of the house on time!

@Stripeymouse the guy that always encourages me to be faster than him at parkrun is nearly 70. I’m always amazed at how fast some of the older people are.

Fizbosshoes · 17/08/2025 08:32

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato
I'm unbelievably lazy and rarely do any parkrun tourism but we happened to be away for a few days!
I hear about people leaving the house at 4am to do some far away parkrun, I feel im doing well if I manage to leave before 8am! (My nearest is about 15-20 min drive)

Cantbesure · 17/08/2025 08:33

Hope you are ok @lightanddreamy my advice would be to get out on a slow run as soon as you can. I fell a few years ago and it really hit my confidence and I stopped running.

did PR yesterday. No PB this week but sub 30 so I’m v happy with that. I braved going up a level in my running club this week too and managed to keep up just fine. I wasn’t even at the back which is what I expected.

I know! Some people from the running club seem to travel miles!

My nearest is a 20 min drive and it seems like an achievement to even get there on time! There are two others just over 30 mins away. Apparently one is a good course for a PB so I might go and do that one sometime to kind of test how fast I can do it in. My local one is a nice course but it’s not one that people get PBs on as it’s farm land and undulating. Though always a good turn out.

tinks3110 · 17/08/2025 10:50

Hope you’re feeling ok @lightanddreamy I had a fall last year whilst training for the great north run, I smashed all my front teeth. Getting back out there was so hard as I was scared to death but I’m glad I did. Hope you manage to get back out there and good luck for the great north run!

Fizbosshoes · 17/08/2025 12:46

I had a fab run today the weather was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky, sunny and a breeze, not too hot. 9 miles mainly off road, I didn't even hate my own company too much, and back by 11

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/08/2025 12:51

@tinks3110 gosh, that’s sounds like a bad fall! Well done for getting back to running following that one!

Your run sounds lovely @Fizbosshoes

I took my dog on a little 3.5 mile trail run this morning and agree it was lovely weather for it. Warm with a breeze but not too hot. The dog and I both thoroughly enjoyed it. Feel like I’m finally getting back to normal post festival. I hope going on holiday in a couple of weeks doesn’t set me back as far!

xsquared · 17/08/2025 14:06

I snoozed my alarm today, but regretting it now as it's warm and need to go out for a run.

I hope you're feeling better @lightanddreamy after your fall.

Great North is still another 3 weeks yet, so think of this rest time as a kind of early taper. If your injuries are just cuts and grazes, then you should still be okay to do easy runs to keep things ticking over this week. All the best!

Stripeymouse · 17/08/2025 14:49

My Park Run is 10 mins away. Absolutely no way I’m travelling further.

My training programme is throwing some new runs at me this week so we’ll see how that goes.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/08/2025 16:52

Hope you bounce back soon and it is nothing too serious @lightanddreamy. Good advice from @xsquared.

I volunteered at parkrun yesterday, swam yesterday afternoon and ran this morning - 8 flat miles. I've got three parkruns in striking distance - my original home one, and two newer ones. One of them is probably closer than my home parkrun, but I only go there if my home one is closed.

Have a good week everyone.

Cantbesure · 17/08/2025 19:19

Oh @tinks3110 that sounds awful. Well done for still running. I think that might have been it for me.
