Les mills on demand

I’m considering cancelling my gym membership and trying the les mills subscription for home workouts instead. Are the classes on the app the same as those offered at a gym? I really love body balance including the music, in person; is it the same on the app? Thanks

Yes they’re the same les mills trainers online
i I loved it during lockdown especially body combat

nbee84 · 15/06/2025 16:53

If you know you'll be disciplined enough to workout at home then Les Mills is perfect. I can also recommend the Peloton app. You don't need to have their bike or treadmill to use the app and they have a lot of content from strength to pilates, barre and meditation to name just a few.

As to Les Mills, the presenters are great at keeping you motivated, give great cues and some good information on the correct form.

I love being able to pick and choose classes depending on my mood, energy levels and time I have available.

Be warned though that the music they use on the app is cover versions (something to do with licensing rights means they can't use the original songs. I found it strange to start with but soon got used to it. Peloton use original music and often have some great remixes of songs.

Thank you, very helpful.

I will trial it. The year costs around £90 for the basic version (not fussed about bodypump and the premium version) which is a bit more than the monthly cost of my gym membership. I’m not going often enough and not sure I can justify the cost anymore. Need to work on discipline!!

I signed up during the pandemic and have been doing the workouts since then. It’s my most utilised subscription and there’s so much more there than just workouts, I use it for meditation, yoga nidra, relaxation, foam roller stretching…

Shapes is my favourite. The app also got me through pregnancy, I kept doing dedicated pregnancy workouts and then started straight away with the post-partum section. For me it’s excellent value for money.

Lighttodark · 16/06/2025 20:14

Thanks! Do you have the premium version?

I really don’t know. There was only one version when I signed up. I had a 7 days free trial first, then cancelled it and waited until I got an offer with a really good deal 😅.
Dur the pandemic there were several full length free LM workouts on YouTube so I could wait for the discount even though I was already addicted.

The subscription gives me access to 26 programs and some dedicated content (such as pregnancy workouts, wellness stuff, something called Fuel Reset - it’s about nutrition and was very good) plus several 30 or so day long plans where you have preselected workouts several times a week.

The workout that sold Les Mills to me is Body Attack #105 with a really good cover of Purple People Eater, the cover is way better than any other cover of the song. It was available for free on YT during the pandemic. Used to give me a big endorphin rush. Lisa Osborne is great.

OneLoudTiger · 16/06/2025 21:13

I’m another one who signed up during lockdown - I’m sure my gym gave us access either for free or at a discount. I loved it - I’m a big body balance fan so that was my go-to, but there were sooo many options for classes it was great.

CortieTat · 16/06/2025 21:30

I love Body Balance too and I do it often as active recovery. My absolutely favourite workout is Shapes. There used to be only 6 Shapes workouts and I have done some of them over 60 times 😅. There are now 12, 7-12 were added this year in May. It’s like Christmas coming early.

whatwoulddexterdo · 18/06/2025 14:03

Also signed up for yearly membership during Covid lockdown and still with them.
as others have said it’s cover music and not as great as original
but it sure beats hanging around the gym 20 minutes before a class scrabbling around for equipment
I love pump and balance and have a love hate relationship with shapes as I find it so hard !!

howdowedothenewnormal · 18/06/2025 20:10

Love mine. I have premium, went to cancel after a year just as I needed to pause after a knee injury and it offered it me half price so now I’m paying 60 per year for premium

howdowedothenewnormal · 18/06/2025 20:11

I also bought the step in the discounted bit of LM (the steps they sell after using them once) and do a lot of BodyStep and pump

I would love to get some of their equipment on sale. In our online shop (my subscription and the shop is run by the Scandinavian subsidiary, LM Nordic - that’s why I don’t see a basic vs premium version) there are never any sales and the equipment is very expensive.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 18/06/2025 22:35

Does he still do body step do you know ? I used to love that back in the day.

shivermetimbers77 · 18/06/2025 22:38

I love Les Mills- I have the premium subscription and do something on there most days.. in fact just about the do a 30 mins Pilates workout now. I love it and the presenters are great.

Yes BodyStep is on there

I have had lmod annual subscription twice and both times it was with a good discount so it’s worth searching for one. I seem to get the offers on Facebook. If you can’t find an offer try @CortieTat’s suggestion of free trial then cancel and wait for an offer. I have been offered half price to return to lmod premium, but I already have the CGX app for a couple of weeks. I also logged into the BODi app and have found that I have some purchased online programmes that I got years ago as part of a bundle and forgot about, so I am holding off resubscribing to lmod for now but very tempted by the price.

Lighttodark · 19/06/2025 13:40

If you sign up for a trial and cancel the subscription before the trial ends, are you likely to get a discount? 😁

How much room do you need to do the classes at home? I have really limited space (small cottage) which has put me off trying.

I am very tempted though.

Clearingaspace · 19/06/2025 14:17

@Lighttodark its definitely possible!

Clearingaspace · 19/06/2025 14:22

@FancyCatSlave my workout space is 6x7 ft and it is a bit tight for body attack tbh, but not too bad. I guess in the gym most of the time the space is restricted by other people also working out so mostly there is a natural limit built in?

An average yoga mat is enough. The one that takes the most space is Body Attack (there’s running) and then Sh’bam (vigorous dancing) and Barre (it’s ballet-inspired and you might knock over an ornament while chanelling your inner ballerina), but there are several cardio options from low impact to hiit that literally can all be done on a yoga mat.
Having neighbours downstairs is potentially a bigger problem because many workouts involve some jumping (Body Attack, Body Combat, Grit, Body Step, Sh’bam, Barre, Tone)

Lighttodark · 14/09/2025 17:45

Hi again! Finally starting the trial today. Those that do cardio eg tone, step etc - is your flooring ok?! Any recommendations for good shock absorbing mats? Love step, worried about my lovely living room floor!
