Can anyone recommend a brand for waterproof hiking boots!
I have flat feet and need lots of ankle support. My last pair were cheapies from Merrell. They have now decided to fall apart

looking for something up to £200 max

Merrell quality has gone downhill recently. Worth trying lots on as sizing is all over the place depending whether your feet are ‘wide’ or narrow. Scapa is a really good brand- I am very happy with mine.

If you want properly waterproof, get leather boots with GoreTex lining. If you want more or less waterproof but lighter and more instantly comfortable, get fabric with GoreTex lining. GoreTex either way!

Meindl, Mammut, Scarpa, Salewa are some good brands. But really you need to try a whole bunch on and see what works for your feet. If you have a good independent outdoors shop near you that is where you'll get the best knowledge and recommendations.

Both DH and I have Scarpa Terra GTX. They might be slightly out of your price range but you can probably find them on offer somewhere. They're the comfiest hiking boots I've ever had.

Don’t buy walking boots online unless you’re prepared to order many until you find the ones that fit you best (or you know already that they will fit you)

As pp said, go to a proper outdoor shop and try lots of them on. I wear Salomon, with amazing arch support. They are good quality but might not fit your feet.

If you have a branch of Go Outdoors near you I would recommend going there and trying on lots of pairs. I replaced mine last autumn and the opportunity to try them on and then walk around on their fake terrain was invaluable.

Highly recommend Salomon Quest 4 Gore tex walking boots. My husband and I both have them and they’re hands down the best ones we’ve ever had. Take a bit of walking in but once you have they’re so comfortable and have loads of ankle support.

I work for an outdoor clothing company and our best selling brand is Salomon followed by Berghaus if you wanted leather
Mammut do some nice sturdy ladies boots as do Asolo
As others have said, get them fitted at an outdoor shop but if that is an issue, you could take the footbed out of your current boots and measure it.
A lot of suppliers now have the footbed length on their size guides.

The best hiking boots are the ones that fit you.

I would definitely go to a good outdoor shop, the best ones tend to be in hiking areas like "Outside" in the Peak District. They will have a choice of all the decent boots and help you to get the right fit. When I went to get new boots last year I had Scarpa in mind but ended up with Salewa boots which were great. You have the budget for good quality boots.
