Windsurfing help

I‘m going on a school trip next week, and one afternoon we will be windsurfing on an Italian lake.

I have never done anything like this before and will be very out of my comfort zone. I will be with a group of teenage boys and am keen to hide my fear so they can’t use it against me in the future 😂 The other teacher is a sports mad male so I don’t want him thinking I’m a wuss either.

I am slim and ‘healthy’ but not very sporty or fit.

Can someone talk me through some basics. How
likely is it I will fall off? Any tips for success and looking like I know what I’m doing?

As a beginner you'll be learning how to pull yourself up into the board from the water, then pull the mast out the water using a strap. This is much easier if you bend your knees and squat so your centre of gravity is lower. If you keep your legs straight you'll end up leaning forwards with your bum sticking out. Use your legs. Once the mast is up, keep your knees slightly bent whilst you grip mast and work your hands along the boom. Bendy knees, poo stance, helps your balance. Why don't you find some videos on you tube to get an idea.

Falling a lot is part of the challenge. The lads will only have eyes for each other & how to knock each other into the water. You can do this !!
