I want to start weight training. Is there an app I could use that would give me a programme to follow?

That’s it really, I want to start weight training but not sure where to start, is there an app that could provide weekly workouts for me?

Workouts I can do in the gym and at home?

I like Lift with Cee (Cheryl Coloumbe) on YouTube x

I used to use Fit On.

I’ve used Fitbod and MyFitCoach. Both are good but require a subscription after the initial free trial. You fill in information about your goals, what equipment you have and how often you want to work out/how long for and it will give a workout to complete at each session. I really liked them both and found I was motivated to complete the 3 workouts per week I’d committed to, and liked seeing the progression.

Caroline Girvan Iron Series is fantastic and you will definitely see results

I really like Caroline Girvan. She has lots of content which is free on YouTube but I have now got the app which I pay for.

Les Mills. Its excellent and has a huge range of workouts including likes of yoga / core/ zumba (although obviously not called zumba).
Be warned: it is addictive.

Another vote for Heather Robertson.

Also on Instagram check out HenleyFitness, she posts some good workouts and go through key exercises and techniques. You can subscribe to her programmes or just use the content she posts.

I love using ChatGPT - give it a bit of background about you, what you would like to achieve, how often and how long you’d like to work out, the sort of equipment you have access to etc and it will write you a programme with links to videos for form

Stronger by the Day. It’s a pay app but you can have a free week trial then only £10/month. It’s a combo of core, free weights and the barbell moves. Set as 16week programmes with 3-5 workout days a week. Easy to follow videos for each move. There is no set weight - start where you need to and just log progress. 3 x options for each workout day - gym, express (short workout) or body weight (home based) It is by Megsquats who is amazing - try her ‘before the barbell ’ program (free. YouTube) beforehand for technique. I love it - it is varied enough to keep me interested and I love logging my progress.

(no, not an ad 😂)

There are loads of free online so no need
to pay but for an idiot proof app I’m liking Ladder App which sadly isnt free but no thought required once you’re set up so worth it for me albeit early days. There’s 3 priority workouts a week you have to do (upper/lower + full body) then 3 optional plus various shorter options like stretches or core. I workout at home with just dumbbells but there are options for the gym or a combination of the two.
