Exercise recommendations for slow-healing cracked rib

Hi everyone. I cracked my rib in early December and it felt fine over Christmas but seems to have got worse again the last week or so. I haven’t been exercising at all apart from walking but I’m now at screaming point and I need to do SOMETHING, anything to at least do some exercise! I’m normally a runner but even a gentle jog feels uncomfortable. Obviously weights are out. Swimming was also not a success. I’m thinking stationary bike? I don’t have a normal push bike but I can do a short term membership at the gym so have access to a range of things.

Any recommendations please let me know! I understand it needs to heal but my god it’s slow going and I need to move for the sake of my own sanity

Deep breathing exercises/Chest physio?

I can't think of any physical exercise that wouldn't increase your breathing rate or require upper body/core muscles which will be painful. Walking perhaps?

Rest.

How long do they normally take to heal? It’s been 6 weeks now! It’s not painful to breathe just anything with impact seems to be uncomfortable hence why I was thinking the bike. I’m keen to do something as it’s my me time and it really helps me destress

About 6-8 weeks on average. Although if over 50 and/or had menopause then up to 12 weeks.

You may find that in the next couple of weeks you will feel more like yourself and are able to gently resume your exercises.

Good luck
