Recommendations for "distance counter" for running/walking

I have a fitbit with a step counter to measure how many steps I take but I'd like some kind of mileage counter phone app (preferably free) that will tell me the actual distance I'm walking and running. What are people using? Does anyone have any recommendations? - BTW phone is a Samsung.

The Google Fit app is very useful.

I've got a Garmin running watch that records data on the native Garmin Connect app. I also use Strava.

Strava is great for this; and the social element can be really motivating to see what running your friends are doing.

Yes,strava. Your fitbit may be compatible with it, if you can set it to "record" a walk. Otherwise you can just use the app on your phone. The free version is perfectly fine for basic time/distance recording, it will use the GPS in either your watch or phone. There are challenges etc you can join to motivate yourself etc
