Hi all, I need some new trainers for the gym. I lift weights and do spin class, no running or anything else high impact on my knees. I currently have Nike Metcons which have been fine, but wanted to see what others wear. Budget up to about £100. Thanks

For strength you need a completely flat sole with a wide toe box.

personally I find trainers like the one you have throw me forward when I’m lifting because of the curve on the toe part of the sole. I prefer to have my whole foot planted on the floor.

For spin a wear old trainers as I find I go through the toe when I’m spinning a lot 😬

I would get biking shoes with clips for spin class, so much more comfortable.

What sort of trainers do you have for weights at the moment Bit?

I have some of these brand, but the shoe I have must have been discontinued. Completely flat.

I don't especially like the look of them, but I feel very stable in them when I am strength training (not that I am a powerlifter; it's more functional strength training) - if you are lifting super heavy, you may need something with bit more structure/support I think.

Thanks Bit. No, not a power lifter either, functional strength like you 💪

I wear Metcon 2 Flywires for weights and mixed conditioning. They are the older model though so have been buying on eBay. I see a difference in stability between those and the new Metcons. Completely flat, lots of room in the toe and very stable.

In the gym I just wear old running shoes that have lost their bounce and cushioning. No point in spending £££ on shoes just for lifting in, ime. Same for spin.

Vivobarefoot for gym/lifting.

Cycling shoes with cleats for spinning.

I’m with @FeelinTwentySixPointTwo . Old trainers for everything but I take them off and do DLs, squats etc in my socks.
