Took a break hard to get back into the swing

I had to take a break from exercise due to health issues. Prior to this I was very active and enjoyed exercising a lot, especially outside and weights.

Now I am better a month later the weather is dreadful and I am struggling to get back into a routine. It’s cold so I don’t want to get up early like I was doing and it’s so cold I don’t want to go outside.

I dropped off weight once I wasn’t able to exercise, I assume this is water, would it be muscle this quickly in a month? I did notice I am a little further behind now with weights, I worked out a few days ago and I couldn’t fully bicep curl 6kg x 3 reps as easily and I got DOMs after

It's so difficult to get back into the swing of exercise, especially when you're so far off what you used to be able to do.

I found little and often helped. I used to do 5K in 30 minutes so I just tried jogging for 30 minutes, and ignored the distance. If that was too much on a given day it was 15-20 minutes. Your fitness improves so quickly that it all adds up.

I personally find classes the best to keep me going. I don't have to think about what I'm doing. Just turn up and get it done. The 0615 class I used to jump out of bed for is less appealing nowadays though!

There are loads of brilliant workouts on YouTube that you can do at home in the warm! Lots have modifications for those days when you're feeling tight/sore/unenthusiastic.

I can recommend some channels if you're interested? Then when you're feeling physically stronger again you might be less put off by the cold!

If you've had a long term habit and one month off, it won't take long to get back on form. The first couple of workouts will feel rough, but go easy, drop the weights/ reps a bit and in a few weeks you'll be getting back where you were
