Which running spikes?

Hoping someone more experienced at competitive running than me can help...

My teenage daughter attends an athletics club every week and needs a new pair of running spikes for track. All of the ones I am looking at online seem to be for either long distance or sprint. I'm wondering if there are spikes out there that are more 'general' as they are doing a bit of everything.

When I have asked the leaders of the club, they don't seem to understand what I'm asking and just say to get a general pair, however I can't seem to find what they are referring to.

Anyone any advice? Thanks!

I got ours from Decathlon, something like this https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/kids-and-adults-at-start-v3-athletics-spikes-shoes-green/_/R-p-338249?mc=8735103

I'm not sure whether there is such thing as "general" spikes. When you ay long distance, I assume you mean 1500m on a track, rather than 10k+ on road?

I think if you just invest in a pair of athletics track spikes, then that should cover most distances on the track anyway? If I were in your dd's shoes <<no pun intended>>, I would ask her club mates what they're wearing for recommendations. You definitely don't want spikes that are meant for cross country though!

Thank you both!

Its track spikes I need but some say suitable for 800m and above for example. Does she therefore need a separate pair for likes of 100/200m sprints (which is her preference in terms of races as opposed to longer distance).

When Iv asked other parents they just look at me blankly which makes me think I'm possibly overthinking this 🤣🙈

By general I think they mean the ‘long distance’ ones. Can you get to a running shop, as you want them to fit well? There are rules about the length of the spikes and how many you are allowed for track, but a running shop should help you with that.

Thank you. We live in a small town so no option to try on really unless we go further afield. I may just do this. She has a pair the now that someone gave her but time for an upgrade!

My son did anything from long jump, sprints, 800m and 1500m and always had the Adidas Allround Star junior spikes. They were great.

Just buy anything, you can change the spikes themselves. The shoes will come with a tool and you can buy the spikes online if the length isn't right.
