Strength training for runners

I've just signed up to do my first marathon next October so I will be going from 3 to 4 days of running and will need to change my gym routine up to do more reps of lighter weights.

I've set myself a 2 day strength programme which incorporates both lower and upper body as well as a couple of core exercises. Focusing on compound exercises as well as those suggested to help with running.

For those of you who do dedicated running strength programmes, what exercise do you do and how often do you up the weights? My previous training regime was to up the weights every time I had a successful set but that was when I was focusing on getting heavier. I'm not sure that that will be the right thing to do for running.

Personally I do two sessions a week, on my hardest run days, so my easy days can actually be easy (I find strength work so hard!)
One upper body and one lower body, I use runners world and women's running for inspo generally, they have a good amount of shorter workouts and explain the benefits of each exercise so I can do what I need to to target certain bits
