Ironman Bolton 70.3

Eeeeek!!

I’ve just signed up to do this and was wondering if anyone else has or is considering it?

I did a sprint back in April and hated it (freezing, raining and I dropped my saddle just before the bike because I was afraid of falling off. That made the hills and run less than ideal). But I did it in a reasonable time and loved the training.

If you’re on the fence; come!! We can swap training/ nutrition ideas and make a weekend of it!

I’m not doing it but I did Bolton when it was a full IM. Not sure if the course is similar to yours. The best day ever (in terms of sporting achievements) . Just so so cool. And the hardest thing I’ve ever done ! You’ll have an ace time. Have you got a coach?

Wow!! Well done for doing a full! That’s my very secret goal but it’s a bit of a way off. This’ll be a reach but I am already so excited!

Yes, having trained for the sprint and the great north swim, I have real decision fatigue (I’m a single mum of four so am decisioned out all over…) I found a lovely online coach. It’s made such a difference in the three weeks I’ve had her.

Thanks for the reply!

70.3 is a late 2026 goal for me, but I’m excited to hear about your prep. I’m aiming for my first sprint to be this time next year. Am a bit up to my eyes in marathon blocks for now

Apparently the plan is to build a base now (definitely lacking in that bike-wise), then the load will increase after Christmas. SO far I’m doing less than when I was trying to do it by myself. Although she’s just started increasing the runs.

And it’s so nice not having to think! I just do what I’m told! I think that’s made the most difference.

Which sprint are you doing? And which marathon?? Never done one of those…Good luck!

bike base is definitely something I need. I’ve not cycled in decades. I’ve just ran Chicago and Dublin then I’ve London next year so there’s been a lot of running.
Sprint wise I am aiming for a very local one where I used to swim as a child. I’m familiar with the roads, they’re all fairly flat. I think I need to get used of flat cycling before any hills appear🤣
