I'm looking for help in finding a specific type of treadmill.

Hello

I'm looking to get a treadmill for my parents who are in their 70's. It's really intended as a walking machine so that they can get exercise and remain active when the weather is bad.

They have limited space and are concerned about having something that is going to be very heavy.

So ideally I'm looking for something that is light and can be folded and preferably has wheels so that it can be moved around easily.

I found a folding treadmill online but it weighs 40kg and that will be too heavy.

Can anyone recommend a treadmill or some other form of exercise equipment that could be used instead?

Thank you.

Do they need the sides that a treadmill has or can they just have a walking pad? If they are steady on their feet, a walking pad sounds as though it would fit the bill perfectly

Some walking pads have handrails, might be a good option

Thanks for your response.

I hadn't considered a walking pad.

I think they would prefer to have something to hold onto but it might be possible to put something in front of the walking pad that they can hold onto.

Thank you.

I got a Sperax walking pad from amazon. It folds down and fits under the sofa. It’s 23kg but has wheels so easier to move. The only thing I find hard is tightening the handle so it doesn’t move, I get DP/DS to tighten it for me. I use it every day though so it mostly stays out

Also just looked and it’s £20 cheaper than when I bought it last month!

You can get walking pads with a bar
they aren’t as solid big as classic treadmill but weigh far less

Treadmills are BIG. We got a bowflex exercise machine which is v nice and a lot smaller. It lives in the dining room and gets wheeled away if we have guests. New ones are v expensive but ex-display is not so bad.

What does DP/DS mean? Sorry if that's a silly question!

Are you allowed to post a link to the walking pad you bought?

What does DP/DS mean? Sorry if that's a silly question!

It's MN jargon.

DP = your darling/dickbrained/dratted/dogbreathed partner
DS = your dear son

("D" is a very versatile letter! Grin )

I've seen a walking pad that I like but I don't think it comes with a frame that my parents can hold onto for support.

Can anyone recommend an additional frame that I could buy as well?

Thanks
