Strained toe ligament

So at the start of July I over did it running and stepped up the distance far to quickly and straigned my little toe ligamnet, I stopped running for a couple of weeks and on a physio advice I started to run again despite low level niggeling discomfort.

The discomfort is not when I run, but at random times, I can sometimes feel the toe gentle throb, or it is sligthly uncomfotbale to put pressure on it on occasion. If kind of feels like someone os gentling tugging the toe. Sometimes it is sligthly red.

This has been going on for three months now. I did a 10k race at the start of september and the little toe was brusied. not the nail the toe itself, but there as no more discomfort and usual.

I have not run since then, but the toe at least a couple of times a day feel uncomfotrable for a couple of hours, very low level but noticable and I can't wear tight fitting shoes at the moment (I used to be able to waer ok) because it feels slightly discomfot.

How can a straigned toe ligamnet go on for so long!! It is such a low level discomft but it does not feel right. I have taken a break from runnig now but it feels like I have not been able to run to my full extent since start July.

Physio said 6 weeks then it should have recovered, it still does not feel right and they just say it will take time but Ok to run a bit.

I have asked about a stress fracture, but they say it would be painful which it has never been and it would be probably heeld anywya in 3 months.

Any idea.

Try a podiatrist @kerry19834 just incase it’s your plantar plate . They can do more foot specific strappings and advice sometimes.
A stress fracture would be healed at this stage and you’d be back on your feet. Ligamentous or tendon injuries can take an age to settle

I agree - go and see a foot specialist. A stress fracture would've healed by now and a strained ligament also should, although if you've still been running on it then maybe it hasn't had a chance to heal? But I'd still see a podiatrist. You need your feet to be in good shape if you're a runner (or even if you're not!)
