I recently started going to workout classes and all of the women seem to be in teeny tiny matching Lycra outfits. What other options are there? I felt rather scruffy in shorts and baggy t-shirt

^what PP said.

Gym clothes are generally close fitting for functionality - so they don't impede your movement, and in some cases so that you can appropriately check your form/positioning if that's important. (There is a reason gyms have mirrors all over that isn't to do with vanity.) You can get looser yoga pants or joggers, but you will want something cuffed at the ankle so you don't have loose fabric flapping around, and if you are bending over for yoga, deadlifts, anything like that, you probably want your top to be fitted around the bust at least so that it doesn't fall forward. You can get workout vests which are cut like this. Decathlon is a really good source for affordable gear and would stock all of this.
