New to pilates, lower back pain.

I have been going to a gym pilates class and have done around 7 classes. Lately I have been getting lower back pain, especially after a class based on balancing on a roll. I am not sure whether to continue with this class or try to do basics online before jumping into a drop in class. Apart from that I am enjoying it.

you’re not doing certain. moves correctly and would benefit from a 1-2-1

Definitely have a 1:1 with your teacher, much better than trying on your own to follow videos online. They will be able to guide you in how to move your spine safely in each exercise

As above you need a couple of one to one sessions, you need to be taught how to protect your back. Is it a large class? I deliberately only go to a small one so that the teacher can give individual advice.

When I started pilates I decided to book half a dozen 1:1 lessons to make sure I was performing it correctly. Two and a half years later I'm still having private lessons because I get so much from a 1:1 session than a class one.

Definitely have at least a few private sessions

I attend classes run by a pilates only instructor with over 20 years experience. Nothing gets past her in terms of poor form. I have also attended gym pilates classes - never again! The gap in knowledge/experience/teaching skills was very clear, and it felt unsafe. You go to pilates to address back issues not develop them. 5 years of pilates has actually changed my life. Find a better teacher OP, you won't regret it.

thanks I will investigate smaller groups and a 121. i suppose I will need to rest up until my back is better.
