If you wanted to tone up for an event what would you do?

I’m a novice at anything like this and would appreciate pointing in the right direction. I know I won’t do anything major in such a short time, but a small improvement would boost my confidence.

I’ve been gradually losing weight for a few months by cutting out rubbish and eating more protein and veg. I’m mid 40s, average size 14, weight goes on my middle first. No gym access so anything would have to be home based.

Caroline Girvan videos with weights

BrickOtter · 16/07/2024 10:03

Youtube workouts are great if you don’t have access to a gym, Caroline Girvan is great but I think difficult if you are new to exercise. I really like Madfit and fitbymik but there are so many on there. You can get cardio/ pilates/yoga / weights routines.

Thank you. I’ll have a look at her YouTube videos.

Caroline Girvan is really good but I agree with @BrickOtter that she is quite tough going for the newly initiated and maybe someone one to work up to. Fitbymik is very effective and a lot of her workouts are with weights, with varying lengths and intensity and for somebody new to it all she might be the better option.

Unless you already do it, try to walk 45 mins a day. Doesn't have to be all in one walk. More would be better.

Olika · 16/07/2024 19:06

Walk outside and then do YouTube videos.

Update from me now it is 40 days later. Thank you for all the advice. I lost 8 pounds and reduced my body fat by 2%. I can feel a positive difference and I’m going to keep going.

Annie Deadman - her latest blast programme is about to start which is about fat loss and gaining strength. Really really good.

Thanks. I took the advice given on here. Daily youtube workout, 10k steps a day and some daily abs floor work. This has helped to tone up, particularly my core.

The weight loss is due to eating in a calorie deficit in a healthy way. Lots of veg, protein, good fats and complex carbs. High volume, but low calories so I was never hungry. I tracked everything on MFP.
