Smartwatch recommendations

Does anybody have an recommendations for cheap smartwatch that actually work well please ?

Just starting out my exercise journey, and don't want to pay too much (around £30/£40). Its essential I can check and receive messages, and would like an accurate step counter.

huawai ones are really good and cheap I had the band 5 and DS has the 8 mine is nearly 5 years old and still fine

Why do you need to check messages? Why not focus on your workout?

@SpindleyDindley sorry I wasn't clear, I don't want to check my messages during workouts. I would like one to be able to receive notifications whilst at work. I soon will be all over for work and unable to have my phone during office hours, so want to still be able to be notified if someone tries to contact me in cases of emergencies with family.

Most people wear their smartwatch all day. Nobody works out all day.

I have a Fitbit Versa 3, OP, and I do like it, but was disappointed when the sleep data was reduced. Also, I found the exercise data on my old Huawei more user friendly. The Fitbit is a good size which suits my terrible eyesight and has loads of functions (which I never use😆) I can read my text messages on it though and can see who is calling me without rushing around looking for my phone.

I like my Samsung Galaxy - either 4 or 5 - can’t remember which.
