Blisters on boobs! Please help!

I have fairly recently started running. I'm not new to exercise, I have been a regular gym goer for a few years, but running is new (trying to shift some weight so decided to try adding some cardio!). I have a weird issue, in that every time I run, I get blisters on the insides of my boobs 🤦🏻‍♀️ Well, I say blisters, they were blisters, but now they are just sores that don't heal because every time I run, I make them worse. I have tried five different sports bras (which are all fine and comfortable when I use them in the gym!), but it seems to happen with all of them?! I spent £35 on a new one a few days ago, used it today, ran nearly 12km, and it happened again. It's driving me nuts! I can't afford to keep buying new ones, only for the same thing to keep happening. I had to invest in a new pair of running trainers today too, I am skint and sore🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Is this part and parcel of running?! I'm a 34DD, so large-ish, but not enormous or anything! What can I do? I don't want to stop, I feel like I'm getting somewhere and I've signed up for a running event this month for charity, but equally, I can't just keep reopening sores! I know runners lose toenails sometimes, but this one is new to me!

I would guess your bras are the right size. Can you get to. Bravissimo for a fitting?
once you have the brand, model and size you can buy online to save money.
in the meantime I’d stop running til you have healed.

DirtyKit · 06/05/2024 00:30

Ps I’m 32 GG/H depending on make and I run with no issues.

Hmmm, sounds like that could be the issue then! They feel comfortable enough and like they fit, but maybe it's more crucial with a sports bra that it's perfect. Probably a good idea to stop for now, but I'm gutted to lose the progress i've made. I'll see if I can locate a bravissimo near to me somewhere!

Maybe try some of the anti chafe stuff that runners use on inner thighs, might be worth a try.

Oh yes I think I have some of that actually, hadn't thought about using it there! My husband suggested vaseline, but that seemed like it could be messy 😂

If all bras are the same size, sounds like the bra is the problem, bravissimo def best place for a fitting.
if you have a tape measure, measure around your ribcage under your boobs, that will give you a rough starting guide for bra size. I would hazard a guess you need a smaller bra size and bigger cup size.

I'm a 32F and seasoned runner. I've not once had this issue and some of my run bras have seen better days so probably aren't the best fitting!
Maybe it's the style of the bra / your boobs? Sorry not much help.

Yes try bodyglide, larnacane anti chaffing or similar where it's rubbing. I'm assuming it's chaffing your getting?
It does sound like the bras aren't fitting right. I only get chaffing occasionally when I do longer races in hot conditions, so it's the extra sweat at the chest strap where it rubs then. But no chaffing on regular shorter runs.
You say the insides of your boobs, do you mean where they are rubbing against each other, or at the armpit sides? I pretty much only wear shock absorber ultra run bras, and I wear them tight so there is not much movement at all. I'm on the bigger boob size too.

ANP2020 · 08/05/2024 02:56

In addition to the anti chafing, cover them while they heal and you run. Like you would blisters on your feet from shoes. Put some plasters or a dressing pad between whilst you run. It’ll stop the contact.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 12/05/2024 00:24

What do you mean by inside of your boobs? Do you mean between them, so are they pushed together and rubbing? Sorry, just trying to understand where the problem is, but I think it might be the style of bra you're wearing.

I have to wear two bras when I run, a M&S lift up granny style and a shock absorber squish emm bra on top. I had to use Vaseline under band and straps if I run more than 5k but this has worked for a few HMs but it’s a pain in neck (literally) having G size boobs. But I keep running, so don’t let it stop you if you enjoy it but yes change the bra size and use Vaseline or sudacream or glide to help.
